NJ TRANSIT Light Rail: Service for Independence Day – Thursday, July 3, through Saturday, July 5, 2025
From Thursday, July 3, and continuing until Saturday, July 5, NJ TRANSIT Light Rail service will operate on a modified schedule as outlined below.
SERVICE NOTES:
Thursday, July 3: All Light Rail Trains will operate on a regular weekday schedule. See njtransit.com or see Light Rail Timetables for details.
Friday, July 4:
- Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on a weekend/holiday schedule until 10:00 AM. After 10:00 AM, HBLR will operate on a modified schedule as follows:
- Beginning at 10:00 AM on July 4, HBLR will adjust the routes which normally travel through and serve Exchange Place by terminating one stop prior to the Exchange Place station. From 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM, northbound service will terminate at Essex Street Station and southbound service will terminate at Harborside Station, with trains operating every 20 minutes.
- From 5:00 PM until 12:00 AM, service will operate every 15 minutes, with load-and-go shuttle service operating between Tonnelle Avenue and Hoboken Terminal from 6:00 PM until 9:30 PM.
- Normal weekend service will continue after 12:00 AM.
- Newark Light Rail will operate on a Saturday schedule.
- River LINE will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Beverages of any kind, in any type of container, open or closed, will not be permitted on board train/bus/light rail. This policy will be strictly enforced. Customers will see increased police presence on the transit system statewide.
