NJ TRANSIT PLANS EVENTS FOR TRY TRANSIT WEEK IN SEPTEMBER

NEWARK, NJ, August 28, 2001 -- NJ TRANSIT will participate in the annual American Public Transportation Association's (APTA) Try Transit Week from September 8-14. Among the scheduled highlights are:
- The Try Transit Festival on Saturday, September 8, featuring special train rides and activities honoring the 150th anniversary of the Lackawanna Railroad.
- Customer Appreciation Day on Thursday, September 13 at NJ TRANSIT bus, train and light rail stations:

The week begins on Saturday, September 8 with the annual Try Transit Festival at historic Hoboken Terminal between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Highlighting the day are:
- Excursion trips on historic railroad equipment traveling on the former Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad’s right-of-way. NJ TRANSIT will celebrate the Lackawanna’s 150th anniversary as part of the festival.
- A live appearance by the Jammin’ 105 (WTJM-FM) "Heart and Soul Patrol" between 12 noon and 2 p.m.
- Wild West train trips, featuring a "robbery" by the "Covered Bridge Gang" of the Somerset County Horse & Pony Association.
- Historical tours of Hoboken.
- Bus tours of the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system.
- Music and entertainment.
- Vintage bus and rail displays.
- Rides, crafts, railroadiana and food vendors.
