NJ TRANSIT TO OPERATE SPECIAL SCHEDULES FOR MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY
Customers Reminded to Check Timetables for Service Details
NEWARK, NJ, January 17, 2001 -- NJ TRANSIT will adjust its bus, rail and light rail schedules on Monday, January 21, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.
- NJ TRANSIT bus lines will operate on holiday, weekday or Saturday schedules, depending on the line. Customers should check their timetables carefully for specific information about their line.
LIGHT RAIL
- Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on a weekday schedule.
- The Newark City Subway will operate on a modified weekday schedule with service every eight minutes during morning and afternoon peak periods.
RAIL
NJ TRANSIT trains will operate on an enhanced Saturday schedule, with additional service provided on all lines except the Atlantic City Rail Line and the Montclair Branch. The Boonton and Pascack Valley lines -- which normally do not operate on weekends or holidays -- will provide limited service. No trains will operate on the Montclair Branch.
On Friday, January 18, NJ TRANSIT will operate two early getaway trains:
- On the Northeast Corridor, a train will depart New York Penn Station at 1:54 p.m., operate express between Newark International Airport and Metropark, then make all stops to Trenton except Jersey Avenue. This train will arrive in Trenton at 3:09 p.m.
- On the North Jersey Coast Line, a train will depart Newark at 3:45 p.m. This train will operate express to Woodbridge, then make all stops to Bay Head, where it will arrive at 5:41 p.m.
On Monday, January 21, a special schedule will operate on the Boonton and Pascack Valley lines:
- Trains will depart Lake Hopatcong at 5:56 a.m., 6:56 a.m. and 7:56 a.m. and will make all stops to Hoboken.
- A train will depart Hoboken at 3:05 p.m. and make all stops to Dover.
- Trains will depart Hoboken at 4:05 p.m., 5:05 p.m. and 6:05 p.m. and will make all stops to Lake Hopatcong.
- No service will be provided to Netcong, Mount Olive or Hackettstown.
- Trains will depart Spring Valley, NY at 6:08 a.m., 7:04 a.m. and 8 a.m. and make all stops to Hoboken. (These trains are listed as 1602, 1606 and 1612 in Pascack Valley Line timetables.)
- Trains will depart Hoboken at 2:45 p.m., 4:50 p.m., 5:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. and will make all stops to Spring Valley, NY.
On Monday, January 21, the following lines, operating on Saturday schedules, will provide additional service:
- An additional train will depart Suffern, NY at 7:05 a.m. and make all stops to Hoboken.
- An additional train will depart Hoboken at 5:30 p.m., making all stops to Suffern, NY.
- An additional train will depart Hoboken at 10:05 p.m., making all stops along the Bergen and Port Jervis lines except Plauderville.
- MidTOWN DIRECT trains will depart Gladstone at 6:36 a.m. and 7:18 a.m., making all stops to New York except Mountain Station, Highland Avenue, Orange and East Orange.
- MidTOWN DIRECT trains will depart New York at 4:27 p.m. and 5:27 p.m., making all stops to Far Hills except East Orange, Orange, Highland Avenue and Mountain stations. Passengers continuing to Peapack or Gladstone should wait approximately 20 minutes at Far Hills for the next train.
- An additional train will depart Port Jervis, NY at 5:29 a.m. and make all stops to Hoboken except Mahwah, Allendale, Waldwick, Ho-Ho-Kus and Delawanna.
- An additional train will depart Suffern, NY at 8:05 a.m., and make all stops to Hoboken except Delawanna.
- An additional train will depart Hoboken at 4:45 p.m., and make all stops along the Main and Port Jervis lines except Delawanna.
- An additional train will depart Hoboken at 6:25 p.m. and make all stops to Suffern, NY except Delawanna.
- Additional trains will depart Dover at 5:46 a.m. and 6:56 a.m. and make all stops to Hoboken.
- Additional trains will depart Hoboken at 4:20 p.m. and 5:20 p.m., making all stops to Dover except East Orange, Orange, Highland Avenue and Mountain stations.
- An additional train will depart Trenton at 6:55 a.m., make all stops to Metropark except Jersey Avenue, then operate express to Newark and New York.
- An additional train will depart Trenton at 7:30 a.m., make all stops to Metropark except Jersey Avenue, then operate express to Newark International Airport Station, Newark Penn Station and Penn Station New York.
- An additional train will depart New York at 1:03 p.m., operate express between Newark Penn Station and Metropark, then make all stops to Trenton except Jersey Avenue.
- An additional train will depart New York at 2:03 p.m., operate express between Newark International Airport Station and Metropark, then make all stops to Trenton except Jersey Avenue.
- Additional trains will depart Long Branch at 6:20 a.m. and 7:20 a.m., making all stops to New York except Avenel, North Elizabeth and Newark International Airport stations.
- Additional trains will depart New York at 4:06 p.m. and 5:06 p.m., making all stops to Long Branch except Newark International Airport, North Elizabeth and Avenel stations.
PORT JERVIS LINE
- An additional train will depart Port Jervis, NY at 5:29 a.m. and make all stops to Hoboken except Mahwah, Allendale, Waldwick, Ho-Ho-Kus and Delawanna.
- An additional train will depart Hoboken at 4:45 p.m. and make all stops along the Main and Port Jervis lines except Delawanna.
- An additional train will depart Hoboken at 10:05 p.m., making all stops along the Bergen and Port Jervis lines except Plauderville.
- Additional Hoboken-bound trains will depart Raritan at 6:27 a.m. and 7:18 a.m., making all stops except Finderne and Garwood.
- Additional trains will depart Hoboken at 4:09 p.m. and 5:06 p.m., making all stops to Raritan except Garwood and Finderne.
The statewide transit agency's bus and rail Weekend Family Super Saver Fare, which allows two children 11 and under to travel free with each fare-paying adult, will be in effect from 7 p.m. Friday, January 18 until 6 a.m. Tuesday, January 22. Senior citizen and round-trip excursion tickets will be valid without restriction throughout the period.
