NEWARK, NJ ¿ The Market Street Bridge in Perth Amboy, which carries vehicular and pedestrian traffic over the North Jersey Coast Line, will be closed to vehicular traffic for about two months starting Monday, June 25, as crews work to rehabilitate the structure.

During the project, motorists will be detoured to streets that run parallel to Market Street. NJ TRANSIT buses will use Smith Street, but the less-congested Fayette Street will be a good option for many motorists. A sidewalk on the Market Street bridge will remain open at all times to accommodate pedestrians.

The project scope includes repairing the bearings upon which the 120-foot-long bridge rests, rehabilitating the bridge deck and repairing the piers.

Work on the two-lane span is expected to be completed and the bridge re-opened in late August.
