Montclair-Boonton and Morris & Essex Line Service Delays due to Bridge Replacement – Beginning Saturday, June 28, 2025

Beginning at 5:00 AM on Saturday, June 28 and continuing until 3:00 AM Monday, June 30, service on the Montclair-Boonton and Morris and Essex Lines will be significantly affected by a bridge replacement project between Newark Broad Street and Hoboken Terminal. 

NOTE: During this time, there will be no train service between Newark Broad Street Station and Hoboken Terminal. 

Trains will operate on an amended schedule as follows:

Montclair-Boonton Line: 

Service will operate between Bay Street and New York Penn Station, except for Train 513 (6:08 AM from Hoboken to Bay Street):

  • Trains departing Bay Street will operate 23 minutes later than usual, except for the last train (normally Train 544, the 12:01 AM departure). Replacement Train 6544 will depart Bay Street six minutes later.
  • Trains departing New York for the Montclair Line will arrive at Montclair Line stations up to 25 minutes later than usual.

Customers traveling to Hoboken will change trains at Secaucus. Connecting trains will arrive at Hoboken up to 41 minutes later than the regular train from Newark Broad Street.

Customers traveling from Hoboken will travel to Secaucus to connect with trains operating to Bay Street. Connecting trains will depart Hoboken eight minutes later than usual, except as noted below:

  • Train 513, the 6:08 AM departure from Hoboken to Bay Street, will be replaced by aNJ TRANSIT bus departing Hoboken at 6:15 AM. This bus will make all regular rail stops (Newark Broad Street, Watsessing Avenue, Bloomfield Glen Ridge and Bay Street).
  • Customers who normally use Train 545 from Hoboken will use shuttle Train 9145 to Secaucus. Train 9145 operates 11 minutes earlier than Train 545.
  • Customers who normally use Train 509 (last train) from Hoboken may use either shuttle Train 9109 (1:15 AM departure) or Train 1701 (1:32 AM departure).

 

Morris & Essex Line:

M&E (Midtown Direct) trains will operate their normal schedules between Dover and New York except for Train 6909, which will depart six minutes later than usual, at 1:25 AM.

Customers who normally change trains at Newark Broad Street for travel to and from Hoboken will change trains at Secaucus instead. Schedule details regarding connecting trains will be available the week of June 16. 

Customers transferring at Secaucus for travel to and from Hoboken Terminal should note the following:

  • Traveling from Newark Broad Street toward New York, trains will arrive at the upper level of Secaucus station. Customers will exit the train and proceed to the lower level for connection to Hoboken-bound trains.
  • Traveling from Hoboken, trains will arrive at the lower level of Secaucus station. Customers will exit the train and proceed to the upper level for connection to westbound trains operating to either Bay Street or Dover.
  • No additional fare will be required for customers with tickets between M&E or Montclair Line stations and Hoboken Terminal. See a faregate representative to obtain free passage through the faregate.
