Family SuperSaver Fares
On weekends and holidays, up to two kids ages, 5 to 11 can ride free with a customer paying any valid fare between 7:00 p.m. Friday or the day before a holiday until 6:00 a.m. Monday or the day after a holiday. Up to three kids 4 and under always ride free with a customer paying any valid fare.
Savings for Senior Citizens
Senior citizens 62 and older may take advantage of 50% discount on one-way tickets at any time on trains, buses, and light rail vehicles.
Reduced Fare Program
Customers with disabilities may take advantage of the 50% reduced fare at any time on trains, buses, and light rail vehicles. Learn how to apply and receive a reduced fare card.
Military Personnel and Their Dependents
Military personnel and their dependents may use the one-way reduced ticket upon presenting their valid military or military-dependent ID cards. Get details on eligibility and how to save.
Student Tickets and Fares
Elementary, Middle and High School Student Tickets (one-way and transfer)
Elementary and secondary school students (through 12th grade) can purchase tickets to save 33% on adult bus one-way and transfer fares or 25% on train and light rail fares for Newark Light Rail, Hudson-Bergen Light Rail or River LINE.
College and University Student Savings
- University Partnership - Student Pass
Save 25% on NJ TRANSIT Monthly Passes when you are a full-time college student whose school participates in our University Partnership Program. - Application for Student Tickets
Any full-time student attending a NJ TRANSIT Accredited School may purchase a discounted rail pass after completing an application and certification by the school. - Student Interns
Student interns that attend a NJ TRANSIT accredited school in New Jersey, New York or Pennsylvania may purchase a student monthly pass if the internship meets specific criteria.

Group Sales
Just as there are many types of groups, options for group travel vary. But every trip offers savings. Save on travel with a group as small as 8 or make special trip plans for larger groups, organizations or businesses.
- Group Tickets can be purchased at savings of up to 25% on trains and up to 13% on light rail when you book a group trip.
- Car Rental enables larger groups of over 96 people to rent a rail car for the trip.
- Train Rental is an option for special programs serving 440 people or more for fundraising, theme or organizational events.
