NJ TRANSIT PARTICIPATES IN 'GET PHILADELPHIA IN MOTION DAY'

NEWARK, NJ, September 27, 2002 -- NJ TRANSIT will revise schedules on the Newark City Subway on Saturday, October 5 in an effort to improve reliability. The Corporation regularly reviews its schedules and makes changes to improve service. Customers are encouraged to check timetables for specific trip times.

"NJ TRANSIT is committed to improving service for all of our customers," said Executive Director George D. Warrington. "Increased service on the Newark City Subway proves our dedication."

Service to and from Grove Street and Silver Lake stations will increase from their current schedule of every nine to 13 minutes to run every seven minutes during the peak and midday periods. Also, all midday weekday trains will now go to Grove Street station.

NEWARK, NJ, September 27, 2002 -- NJ TRANSIT is participating in 'Get Philadelphia in Motion Day' on Thursday, October 3 with a fair highlighting the importance of public transportation. The fair will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Reading Terminal Market's Center Court, 12th and Arch Streets in center city Philadelphia.

Participating organizations include SEPTA, PATCO, Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, Clean Air Council, Amtrak and the Central Philadelphia Transportation Management Association. Their mission is to enhance center city Philadelphia as a premier place to live, work and visit by improving mobility throughout the downtown and by making travel efficient, reliable, pleasant and safe.

"This event allows NJ TRANSIT to showcase its extensive bus and rail services, particularly those serving the greater Philadelphia region," said NJ TRANSIT Executive Director George D. Warrington. "It also allows us the opportunity to demonstrate our contributions to the communities we serve including economic development opportunities and improved mobility."

Each organization will provide exhibits, distribute information and offer transportation related raffle prizes at the fair. Entertainment will be provided by the Jazz East Quartet.

NJ TRANSIT provides bus service to Philadelphia's Greyhound Bus Terminal on the Nos. 313, 315, 317, 400, 401, 402, 403, 404, 405, 406, 407, 408, 409, 410, 412, 413, 419 and 551 routes. NJ TRANSIT also provides rail service to Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station on the Atlantic City Rail Line.

'Get Philadelphia in Motion Day' is part of a national Communities in Motion Day, sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) to educate, promote and celebrate the benefits of public transportation.
