October 14, 2026

NEWARK, NJ — NJ TRANSIT is offering special rail service between Hoboken and Far Hills to transport customers to and from the 105th running of the Far Hills Race Meeting on Saturday, October 17. NJ TRANSIT’s Far Hills Station on the Gladstone Branch of the Morris & Essex Lines is located directly across the street from Moorland Farms, the site of the event.

Customers should note that because of the Portal Bridge cutover project, weekend schedules on the Morris & Essex Lines differ from their usual patterns. Those who have travelled to the Far Hills Race Meeting in past years should carefully review the schedules for this year, including the schedules for trains operating to Far Hills.

  • Please note that on October 17, Gladstone Branch trains will operate:

    • Westbound from Summit to Far Hills only from 8:25 a.m. until 1:21 p.m. (with more frequent service from approximately 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon)

      • Customers should note that most trains operating to Far Hills will originate in Hoboken. Please see schedule for details.

    • Eastbound from Far Hills to Summit/Hoboken from 3:20 p.m. until 7:05 p.m. (the last train will not depart before 7:05 p.m.)

  • At all other times, Lakeland bus service will replace Gladstone Branch trains between Gladstone and Summit.

  • ALL trains operating along the Gladstone Branch this day will terminate/originate at Far Hills station.  Frequent Lakeland shuttle bus service will operate between Gladstone, Peapack and Far Hills all day.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For this special event, customers are advised that NO BEVERAGES INCLUDING ALCOHOL, OPEN OR CLOSED, WILL BE PERMITTED on any train, bus or platform to and from Far Hills on Saturday, October 17. This policy will be strictly enforced.

To avoid lines, customers are strongly encouraged to purchase round-trip tickets in advance. Download NJ TRANSIT’s mobile app. Customers boarding at Far Hills on October 17 without a valid ticket or pass will be required to purchase a special ticket prior to boarding the train for $20.  The special ticket is valid until 11:59 p.m. on October 17 only for travel between Far Hills and any NJ TRANSIT rail station.

On October 17, ticket offices will be open during regular hours at Hoboken, Summit and Dover. The ticket office at Lyons will have special operating hours on October 17. Temporary ticket booths will be set up at Berkeley Heights, Bernardsville, Far Hills and Gladstone with special operating hours. See www.njtransit.com for specific times.
