Free Wi-Fi on NJ TRANSIT Buses

NJ TRANSIT buses now have free Wi-Fi — and it's available to every rider, on every equipped bus, at no cost. No password, no account, no signup required.

This program was made possible through a U.S. Treasury Capital Projects Fund grant aimed at expanding broadband access for riders across New Jersey, especially in communities where a reliable connection is harder to come by.

Network name: NJTRANSITWiFi
No password required.

  1. Turn on Wi-Fi on your phone, tablet, or laptop.
  2. Select NJTRANSITWiFi from your list of available networks.
  3. Tap Accept & Connect.

Good to Know

  • Not every bus has Wi-Fi yet. The rollout is ongoing — more buses are being added regularly. Look for the Wi-Fi Enabled sticker onboard.
  • Performance varies. The connection works best for email, messaging, and web browsing. Streaming and large downloads may be limited to ensure fair access for all riders.
  • Dropped connections usually self-restore within about 30 seconds.
  • Your bus operator cannot assist with Wi-Fi. For support, see the contact information below.
  • Please connect one device at a time. This helps ensure a reliable connection for everyone on board.
  • NJTRANSITWiFi is an open network. We recommend using secure (HTTPS) connections and avoiding sensitive transactions like online banking while connected.
