Student Film Policy

NJ TRANSIT's Requirements for Student Film/Photo Permits

Students seeking to access NJ TRANSIT property must apply for a film/photo permit.
These requirements apply to any student who is in academic good standing with their school.

Procedures

Any student wanting to film/photography must submit a written request to:
NJ TRANSIT, 283-299 Market Street, Suite 900, Newark, NJ 07012, Attention: Ashley Cyrus,
Director of Revenue Contract Programs, Real Estate Development & Planning, or by email to
[email protected]. Student film/photo requests must include the following:

1. 1. A letter on school letterhead from an instructor/professor stating you are a student in
   good standing with the school.
    
2. 2. copy of the certificate of liability insurance which shall indemnify, keep and save
   harmless the State of New Jersey and NJ TRANSIT.
   
   A certificate of liability insurance in the amount of $5,000,000 per occurrence with NJ
   TRANSIT and the State of New Jersey listed as “Additional Insured” and evidence of
   workers’ compensation coverage containing the following language will be required: “New
   Jersey Transit and the State of New Jersey are Additional Insured on the above-
   referenced Commercial General Liability, Automobile Liability, and
   Umbrella/Excess Liability Policies if required by written contract with respect to access
   permit #2X-XXXA. Umbrella/Excess Liability is follow form of the Commercial General
   Liability, Automobile Liability, and Employer’s Liability policies. 30 days’ notice of
   cancellation (except 10 days for non-payment of premium) is provided to the Certificate
   Holder.”.
   
   In addition, if the film or photo shoot will take place within 50 feet of the railroad right-of-
   way, evidence of protective liability insurance in the amount of $2,000,000 per occurrence
   and $6,000,000 aggregate is required.
   
   Safety Training Classes are online and must be completed prior to commencing the photo
   shoot or commencing filming. The requestor must register online at
   https://njtransitcontractor.com/Master/new_company_registration.cshtml and pay a
   nominal fee per person. Once the training is complete, each member of the cast/crew will
   receive a pdf. file, which will contain a 30-day temporary badge, Permanent badges will
   be mailed to your company and are valid for one year. The safety training course is also
   valid for one year;
    
3. 3. List of all persons, both cast and crew, involved in the shoot.
    
4. 4. A letter of intent from the student which includes the requested date(s) and time(s) for
   film/photography shoot and a timestamped schedule of events.

The request must be submitted to NJ TRANSIT for approval at least two weeks before the
proposed shoot date.

Students are subject to all other NJ TRANSIT requirements for filming/photography.
 

NJ TRANSIT reserves the right to refuse admittance for photography and/or to change these
student film/photo requirements without advance notice. The terms and conditions of a permit
given are considered as understood and agreed upon prior to entry to NJ TRANSIT property and
any unauthorized activities not specifically allowed herein may be considered cause for
termination.
