Effective immediately and continuing until Friday, September 17, Escalator 8, which serves Track 1 at Newark Penn Station, will be temporarily out of service for modernization work.

During this time, customers may use Escalator No. 7, the nearby passenger elevator or stairs to access the platform.

Beginning on Thursday, August 12 and continuing until further notice, access to the Track A south entrance, located in the Main Concourse at Newark Penn Station will be temporarily unavailable due to tile replacement work. 

During this time, customers may use the Main Concourse’s north entrance staircase or the ramp adjacent to Track A’s north entrance, which leads to Elevator No. 36.

We appreciate your patience as we continue to enhance Newark Penn Station.

Newark Penn Station

As a part of NJ TRANSIT’s commitment to excellence, a major renovation and enhancement project has commenced at Newark Penn Station, complementing construction efforts already in progress. Enhancement work includes restoration of the historic tiles and wood benches, modernized restroom fixtures and partitions, improved platform signage, upgraded bus lane drainage as well as bus lane repaving, the addition of new vendors and more!

What to expect while navigating the station:

  • Allow for the possibility of a few extra minutes within the station as you may have to follow alternate routes to access platforms and modes of transportation. Service will not be directly impacted by this project.
  • Take note of any posted signage designed to direct your path in certain areas. For your safety, please obey all posted signs, and do not travel through barricaded areas.

Please excuse our appearance during construction. We appreciate your patience throughout this enhancement project.
