Millburn Station

$18.5 million contract awarded to construct new modern, accessible station and better serve customers

 

The NJ TRANSIT Board of Directors has approved an $18.5 million contract for the construction of the new Lyndhurst Train Station. The new station will be constructed to replace the current 107-year-old station. The new fully accessible station, to be located at the corner of Delafield Avenue and Court Avenue, will be closer to the commuter parking lot, making it more convenient for customers.

“With this new station, NJ TRANSIT is investing in Lyndhurst, in New Jersey, and in our future,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin Corbett. “When it’s finished, this station will be a perfect example of everything we gain by investing in transit. For customers, the new station will improve the experience for the hundreds of people who use it every day and provide full accessibility for those with disabilities. The contract award also means good construction jobs for New Jerseyans, which will support the State’s economic recovery following the pandemic.”

The station building is designed to replicate the historic style of the Lyndhurst neighborhood and will include ADA accessible platforms, new stairs, four elevators, lighting, canopies, communications and Closed-Circuit TV. Six firms bid on the project, with the contract going to Anselmi & Decicco, Inc. of Maplewood, NJ.

The ADA accessible parking lot will be located next to the new station on the property owned by the Township under a lease agreement between the township and NJ TRANSIT. The station, located on the Main Line, pre-COVID 19 served an average of approximately 1,000 weekday passenger trips.
