How to Take NJ TRANSIT to the Prudential Center

The Prudential Center is located in downtown Newark, just two blocks from Newark Penn Station and connected to Newark Broad Street Station by frequent bus and light rail service.

You can easily reach the Prudential Center from any direction by using a multitude of NJ TRANSIT options:

By Rail
  • The Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, & Raritan Valley Line trains travel directly to Newark Penn Station, which is just a short 5-minute walk to the Prudential Center. Whether you’re traveling from New York City, High Bridge, Bay Head, or Trenton, you’re just one rail line away from the Rock.
  • Traveling via the Main-Bergen County Lines or Pascack Valley Line? Take the train to Secaucus and transfer to ANY southbound train. Travel 1 stop and you’ll be at Newark Penn.
  • Taking the Morris & Essex Line or Montclair-Boonton Line trains? Catch the train to Newark Broad Street Station and either catch the Newark Light Rail to Newark Penn or catch ANY downtown-bound bus on Broad Street (11, 13, 27, 28, GO28, 29, 30, 41) to get dropped off a block from the Rock.
    • If you have a monthly rail pass valued at $67 or more, you can use it on any NJ TRANSIT light rail line or buses up to the number of zones indicated on the pass. Simply show your valid rail pass to the bus operator or light rail fare inspector!

If you live within walking or biking distance of the Newark Light Rail, you have a simple commute to the Prudential Center! Just catch any Newark Penn-bound light rail train on the Grove Street-Newark Penn Line to the Military Park station, where you’ll be dropped off just a short walk from the Prudential Center.

Tap & Ride

NJ TRANSIT light rail and buses now allow you to "Tap & Ride" to get to and from the Prudential Center.

  • If you're taking light rail, simply tap the validator machine (found at every light rail station) with your credit card, debit card, or smartphone to purchase and validate your light rail ticket. Nothing more to do other than catching your light rail to the Rock!
  • If you're taking the bus, simply tap the validator machine at the front of the bus with your credit card, debit card, or smartphone, and let the bus driver know your destination. That’s it!

Ticket Vending Machines and Ticket Offices

Tickets and FARE-PAY cards can also be purchased at your boarding station from ticket vending machines or at ticket offices at major terminals. If you're taking the train, be sure to buy your round-trip tickets before boarding to avoid an additional $5.00 surcharge!
