POSSIBLE ALTERNATE NJ TRANSIT RAIL SERVICE TO PSNY ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 10

NEWARK, NJNJ TRANSIT is continuing to work closely with Amtrak and the Federal Railroad Administration on the investigation into Friday night’s incident in the Hudson River Tunnels. At NJ TRANSIT, the safety of our commuters and employees remains our highest priority. We assure our customers that, once the Amtrak repairs are complete and all the necessary safety inspections are made, rail service through the tunnels will remain completely safe.

 

 

 

Amtrak will continue to work on the repairs to their catenary (overhead wire) infrastructure in the South Tube of the tunnels into the overnight  hours Sunday night. Amtrak fully expects to have the work completed during this time, and we anticipate running our regular weekday rail service in and out of New York on Monday morning.

 

 

 

However, there is a possibility the work may not be finished overnight and repairs could continue through the Monday morning rush-hour. In that event, NJ TRANSIT will implement the following contingency plan before the Monday morning (9/10) commute and strongly encourage customers to allow for additional travel time:

 

 

 

  • All Morris & Essex and Montclair-Boonton Line Midtown Direct trains will be diverted to Hoboken

  • NJ TRANSIT New York tickets and passes will be accepted for travel on:

    • PATH at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken Terminal and 33rd St. in New York

    • NJ TRANSIT Bus and Private Carrier Bus

    • NY Waterway Ferry Service (to/from Hoboken Terminal only)

  • Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line rail service in and out of New York will be subject to approximately 30-minute delays in both directions

 

 

 

NJ TRANSIT will provide updated information as new details become available at njtransit.com.  Customers may also access NJ TRANSIT’s Twitter feed at @NJTRANSIT or listen to broadcast traffic reports.  Additionally, NJ TRANSIT will provide the most current service information via the My Transit alert system (www.njtransit.com/mytransit), which delivers travel advisories for your specific trip via e-mail or text message. Service information is also available by calling (973) 275-5555 daily between 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
