NEWARK, NJ — It’s here!  NJ TRANSIT’s mobile app, an expanded version of the very popular MyTix program, is now available for all bus, rail and light rail customers and offers many amenities including DepartureVision.

Beginning September 9, NJ TRANSIT customers will be able to utilize their mobile device to access MyTix, NJ TRANSIT train schedules, DepartureVision, MyBus and trip planning functionality, allowing them to quickly make travel plans, buy tickets and get transit information.

“From the start, we have sought out innovative technology to help improve the transportation experience for NJ TRANSIT customers,” said Transportation Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT Board Chairman Jamie Fox. “We are pleased to expand the availability of the App/MyTix availability statewide and provide another amenity to make travelling more convenient for our customers.”

“Time and again we have heard from our customers that they love the ease and convenience that mobile apps provide,” said NJ TRANSIT Executive Director Veronique “Ronnie” Hakim.  “This app opens up a whole new world to our NJ TRANSIT customers; now access to NJ TRANSIT travel information has never been easier.’’

The NJ TRANSIT mobile app was developed in-house and in direct response to the feedback that the agency received from MyTix users.  It delivers on what MyTix customers have requested, an app which serves as a single source for both NJ TRANSIT travel information and ticketing, and the new NJ TRANSIT app delivers.  The app will continue to evolve in order to offer additional services and greater efficiencies to all NJ TRANSIT customers.

In addition, NJ TRANSIT’s  MyTix will now offer monthly passes for light rail travel and offer all of our customers the option to pay with PayPal, allowing NJ TRANSIT customers to transfer payments electronically. This service makes the transactions between NJ TRANSIT and its customers convenient and easy.

The NJ TRANSIT mobile app is available for free download on any web-enabled iOS or Android device, via the App Store or Google Play. With this new mobile app, customers can purchase monthly bus, light rail or rail passes by first installing the app and then creating an account, which will securely save customers’ profile information and their future purchase history. Monthly passes self-activate at midnight on the first day of the calendar month for which they are valid and remain active throughout the entire month. Customers then simply display the monthly pass on their mobile device to the bus operator, fare inspector or train crew member.

The NJ TRANSIT mobile app is an expansion of the MyTix program, which was launched in April 2013 as a pilot program for rail customers on the Pascack Valley Line, as well as between Penn Station New York and the Meadowlands Rail Station for special events, to test the functionality of the app and determine the feasibility of expanding it to other rail lines. In September 2013, NJ TRANSIT expanded MyTix to the Main/Bergen County and Port Jervis lines, followed in October by the Montclair-Boonton and Morris & Essex lines, and in November to the North Jersey Coast and Raritan Valley lines. The rail system-wide rollout was completed in December 2013 with the inclusion of the Northeast Corridor and Atlantic City Rail Line.

In September 2014, MyTix was first introduced to bus customers in South Jersey on 59 bus routes, serving communities throughout South Jersey, as well as Philadelphia. In January of this year, MyTix was expanded to bus routes serving Port Authority Bus Terminal, Lower Manhattan and the George Washington Bridge.

Many improvements made to the agency’s mobile app were the direct result of valuable feedback from customers using the app during the gradual rollout. Since its 2013 introduction, MyTix has become very popular among NJ TRANSIT customers, as evidenced on Customer Satisfaction Surveys. On these surveys, “Payment Options’’ received the highest scores from customers, most recently receiving a 7.3 on a 0 to 10 point scale. This represents the highest score at the system level among 42 service attributes. To date, customers have used the MyTix app to establish more than 600,000 accounts and have purchased more than 8 million tickets.
