Hudson Bergen Light Rail still suspended; Cross-honoring extended through Tuesday; Customers advised to check for updates

NEWARK, NJ — NJ TRANSIT continues to monitor rapidly changing weather conditions and bitter cold temperatures that blanket the region. To make travel as flexible as possible, system-wide cross-honoring will be in effect all day Tuesday, February 3. Customers are urged to use extreme caution traveling around the system and boarding and alighting trains and buses, and to frequently check for service updates.

NJ TRANSIT plans to operate regular weekday service Tuesday, February 3, on its bus, rail, light rail and Access Link services with the following exception.

Hudson-Bergen Light Rail 

Hudson-Bergen Light Rail service will remain suspended until further notice due to heavy icing conditions on the overhead catenary wires. There will be no substitute bus service due to capacity constraints. Hudson-Bergen Light Rail customers must seek alternate means of transportation. Hudson-Bergen Light Rail tickets will be honored on PATH, NJT buses, trains and private carriers. Hudson-Bergen Light Rail customers should frequently check for service updates. Every effort is being made to restore service as quickly and safely as possible.


NJ TRANSIT has extended system-wide cross-honoring through Tuesday, February 3, to give customers additional travel options through and after the storm, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode — rail, light rail or bus — including private bus carriers.

For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass or ticket on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. Similarly, customers who normally take the bus between Atlantic City and Lindenwold may use the Atlantic City Rail Line instead at no additional charge.  Customers using their tickets or passes to travel to a destination other than the destination printed on their original ticket will be subject to the appropriate additional fare if applicable.

Customer Safety

Customers should exercise extreme caution traveling in and around all transit facilities and when boarding or alighting buses and trains due to expected icy conditions. NJ TRANSIT will continue to monitor conditions around the system, including in parking lots and at stations and terminals, and will respond quickly to changing conditions.

  • Listen closely to public address announcements at stations for late-breaking service information.
  • Build additional travel time into your trip to a station, terminal or bus stop.
  • Stairs, flooring and platforms can be slippery, so please use caution when walking along wet surfaces or any outdoor surface exposed to the weather. Use extra care when boarding or exiting buses and trains.
  • Report slippery or unsafe conditions to bus operators, train crews or
    NJ TRANSIT staff.  
  • If you park, ensure your car is stocked with a snow brush and ice scraper so you can clear your car upon returning to the lot.
