NJ TRANSIT OFFERS FREE NEWARK LIGHT RAIL PARKING ON SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS

Park free at Grove Street Station Sat./Sun. starting March 16

NEWARK, NJ — Starting this Saturday March 16, 2013, NJ TRANSIT will offer free parking on weekends for Newark Light Rail customers at Grove Street Station in Bloomfield. 

“Last month, we began offering free parking on Saturdays and Sundays at Hudson-Bergen Light Rail park/rides and wanted to extend the same offer to our Newark Light Rail customers,” said NJ TRANSIT Executive Director James Weinstein.  “This provides extra incentive for people to get out of their cars and onto Newark Light Rail, which offers connections to buses and trains at two major transit hubs.” 

In February, NJ TRANSIT implemented free Saturday/Sunday parking at five Hudson-Bergen Light Rail stations as part of a one-year pilot program aimed at encouraging use of the light rail system and increasing weekend ridership. 

Customers will be able to take advantage of free parking from 12:01 a.m. on Saturdays until the end of the service day on Sundays at Grove Street Station.
