NJ TRANSIT INTRODUCES FREE PILOT MICROTRANSIT SERVICE FOR SENIORS AND PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES IN SOUTH JERSEY
“CG Hopper” Provides Seniors and People with Disabilities with Free Accessible Transportation in Camden and Gloucester Counties
October 28, 2026
BLACKWOOD, NJ — NJ TRANSIT, in partnership with the Senior Citizens United Community Services (SCUCS), Camden and Gloucester counties, today introduced the CG Hopper, a free, on-demand shared-ride service operated by Via.
The CG Hopper will provide seniors and people with disabilities who reside in Camden and Gloucester counties with convenient, accessible transportation throughout the designated service area. The service will also provide connections to NJ TRANSIT services, giving customers greater access to the broader NJ TRANSIT network and expanding their transportation options.
“Reliable transportation helps people live independently and remain connected to the people they love,” said Governor Mikie Sherrill. “With the launch of the CG Hopper, we’re making everyday trips easier for seniors and New Jerseyans with disabilities in Camden and Gloucester counties. I’m proud to work with our county and community partners to deliver a service that will make a real difference for South Jersey families.”
“The CG Hopper is a direct investment in South Jersey and the residents who count on accessible transportation most,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kris Kolluri. “By combining the local expertise of Senior Citizens United Community Services and Camden and Gloucester counties with NJ TRANSIT's network, we're giving seniors and people with disabilities a free, flexible way to travel across county lines.”
"I want to commend NJ TRANSIT for their forward thinking, progressive initiative to provide more access and opportunity to transportation options for our seniors and disabled community here in Camden County," said Camden County Commissioner Jennifer Cooley Fleisher, liaison to the Camden County Health Department. "Anytime we can bring these options to the front doors of our residents we are bridging a real gap that will ultimately enhance the lives of our neighbors and improve the social determinants of health for every individual participating in the program."
“I am thrilled that Gloucester County can be a part of this collaboration to provide same day fare free transportation to seniors and individuals with disabilities to destinations within designated areas,” said Director Frank J. DiMarco, Gloucester County Board of Commissioners. “This pilot program will allow our most vulnerable citizens the opportunity to remain independent and expand our paratransit operations to include longer operational hours and Saturday service. This is another example of Gloucester County’s vision to share services, collaborate and partner whenever feasible.”
“The CG Hopper is a great example of what can happen when state, county and community partners work together to address a real need,” said Christina Renna, President & CEO, Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey. “One of the biggest challenges we face in South Jersey is connecting our communities across county lines, particularly for residents who don't have easy access to transportation. Making transportation more accessible and affordable improves quality of life and strengthens our communities making South Jersey a better place to live and work.”
“We are thrilled to partner with NJ TRANSIT and Senior Citizens United Community Services to bring the next generation of public mobility to Camden and Gloucester counties,” said Via's Chief Revenue Officer, Michael Vaccarino. “By integrating Via’s intelligent microtransit technology into the region’s existing infrastructure, we are providing vital access to social, economic, and healthcare opportunities for seniors and people with disabilities across community borders."
The CG Hopper is an 18-moth pilot and represents a collaborative effort to connect communities across county borders and provide more flexible transportation options for residents. NJ TRANSIT is also partnering with the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, which helped inform the pilot's development and will analyze service data, evaluate outcomes, and identify promising practices to help guide future mobility initiatives in New Jersey.
All senior residents (60+) and people with disabilities in Camden and Gloucester counties are eligible for rides on the CG Hopper. SCUCS and Camden and Gloucester County current riders will be automatically enrolled. New riders must complete a one-time eligibility registration through SCUCS or the County of Gloucester Division of Transportation Services program. Registration requires basic information, including an address and any mobility device used; applicants qualifying based on disability must provide medical verification.
Customers may reserve trips and travel with a companion or personal care attendant. Service animals are welcome.
Benefits of the CG Hopper include flexible, on-demand service, extended service hours which enhance existing county programs as well as cross-county transportation options.
