NJ TRANSIT DEBUTS DIGITAL UPGRADES INCLUDING ‘NAVVIE’, THE AI-POWERED CHATBOT

Redesigned Website Also Includes Modernized Navigation and Improved Accessibility; Mobile App Updates Continue To Enhance Streamlined Interface

September 1, 2026

NEWARK, NJ — In line with Governor Sherrill’s Rapid Action Plan, NJ TRANSIT is delivering a significant digital customer experience upgrade, including a redesigned njtransit.com website featuring modernized navigation, improved accessibility and more prominent system status information. The new website launches alongside the debut of “Navvie,” a new AI-powered chatbot on the website to help customers quickly access trip planning and travel details. In addition, the NJ TRANSIT mobile app will receive a host of updates to streamline the experience in response to customer feedback. These improvements are part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to modernize and improve the overall customer experience.

“Our redesigned website puts customers first while Navvie, our first digital assistant, gives customers a smarter, more convenient way to plan their trips and get travel information,” said NJ TRANSIT President and CEO Kris Kolluri. “These improvements reflect our commitment, and Governor Sherrill’s commitment, to deliver a modern, intuitive transit experience for all New Jerseyans.”

The new NJ TRANSIT website

Beginning on September 1, 2026, the redesigned njtransit.com will feature a simplified design for faster access to the most-used features, a modernized, mobile-responsive layout and streamlined journey to plan trips. It will also feature more prominently displayed passenger information such as service alerts, advisories and other essential travel details and a clearer presentation of rail, bus and light rail schedules. The website will also feature enhanced accessibility with increased text clarity and contrast, more intuitive navigation for screen readers and compliance with updated WCAG guidance.

The new website will also offer, Navvie, a new chatbot pilot providing customers with a conversational way to get information and answer questions without navigating multiple web pages. Available 24 hours, 7 days a week, Navvie can provide trip-planning support, travel information assistance, guidance on schedules, alerts and transfers.

As results of the pilot are analyzed, Navvie may be integrated into the NJ TRANSIT mobile app by the end of 2026, aligning with NJ TRANSIT’s multi-channel unified communications vision.

Launching September 9, 2026, enhanced NJ TRANSIT mobile app features will deliver improvements focused on improved reliability, service clarity, ticketing and trip planning based on feedback from customers following the release of our newly-designed mobile app earlier this year. Customers will see a new unified Departures & Schedules experience that brings train, bus and light rail schedule information into a more consistent, easier-to-navigate format; improved access to active service alerts and service information; enhanced trip-planning and nearby-station functionality; and improvements to event ticketing, including support for special-event travel. The release also includes accessibility, payment, performance and general usability improvements designed to make everyday trip planning and ticketing more reliable and intuitive.

A subsequent release later in September will further enhance the home screen with Home Screen Favorites and a Breaking News/Service Information module. The service information experience will align with NJ TRANSIT’s website Breaking News messaging and provide customers with the ability to navigate multiple major service announcements or service impacts directly from the home screen.

These digital enhancements support Governor Sherrill’s Rapid Action Plan for NJ TRANSIT as spelled out in Executive Order 16, demonstrating fast, meaningful improvements in customer transparency, modernizing critical digital infrastructure, improving the accuracy and availability of passenger information and setting the stage for future modernization.
