NJ TRANSIT CELEBRATES COMPLETION OF NEW LYNDHURST STATION
New Accessible Station Is Compliant With ADA; Rail Service to Begin June 8
LYNDHURST, NJ – NJ TRANSIT today celebrated the completion of construction of the new Lyndhurst rail station. President & CEO Kris Kolluri was joined by Congresswoman Nellie Pou, state Senator Paul Sarlo, Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese, Bergen County Executive James Tedesco and Lyndhurst Mayor Robert Giangeruso to showcase the new facility including its accessible features such as elevators and high-level platforms. Trains will begin utilizing the new station June 8 to coincide with new rail schedules.
“The completion of the new Lyndhurst Station is another step in our ongoing commitment to modernize our rail network and provide fully accessible facilities for all customers,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kris Kolluri. “By combining classic architectural elements with modern amenities, this new station demonstrates how thoughtful design can deliver long-term value to customers and the community.”
“This beautiful new station is itself a monument to the cooperation between our federal, state, and local officials, and most of all: determined Lyndhurst citizens,” said U.S. Representative Nellie Pou (NJ-09), a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. “Over $30 million in federal support was used to create a facility that is ADA ready and will provide a safer, more comfortable environment for our commuters. This federal investment will encourage public transit ridership, give a needed boost to NJ TRANSIT, and is a down payment on Lyndhurst and Bergen County’s future.”
“NJ TRANSIT customers will see a vibrant, accessible station when they board a train at the new Lyndhurst station,” said State Senator Paul Sarlo. “I commend NJ TRANSIT for modernizing the Lyndhurst Station to ensure it is accessible to all who ride it. I am proud to have provided assistance in the funding of this new station and in the coordination between the Township of Lyndhurst and NJ TRANSIT."
“The completion of the new Lyndhurst station is a significant investment in the future of NJ TRANSIT and the communities it serves,” said Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese (Bergen/Passaic). “As the Chair of the Assembly Transportation Committee, I am committed to supporting the advancement of projects that enhance safety, accessibility, and reliability across our public transit system. This new, modern station reflects the kind of forward-looking infrastructure that improves quality of life for riders and supports stronger, more connected communities for generations to come. I commend NJ TRANSIT for its commitment to making this project a success.”
"The new Lyndhurst station is a smart, forward-looking investment that improves mobility, strengthens our economy, and supports long-term growth across South Bergen,” said Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco III. “This project shows what’s possible when every level of government works together to deliver real progress for our communities."
“The new Lyndhurst train station is poised to become one of the busiest transit hubs in Bergen County,” said Lyndhurst Mayor Robert Giangeruso. “This modern facility not only reflects our commitment to smart growth and infrastructure development but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of our town. By improving accessibility and connectivity, we are laying the foundation for a more prosperous and connected Lyndhurst.”
The new Lyndhurst Station, located just east of the current station, is fully ADA accessible, providing high-level platforms and new elevators, stairs, and canopies, making for a safer, enhanced travel experience for all customers. The new facility, thanks to $30.9 million provided by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), replaces a station more than a century old which was not ADA Accessible. The new station building is designed to replicate the historic style of the neighborhood. Lyndhurst station, located on the Main Line, serves more than 800 weekday passenger trips.
Once service begins at the new Lyndhurst station on June 8, the Kingsland station will close.
