ALL ABOARD THE NJ TRANSIT AND SALVATION ARMY “POLAR EXPRESS” TRAIN

River LINE Light Rail Ride Brings the “Polar Express” to Life

December 10, 2022

CAMDEN, NJ – NJ TRANSIT hosted a very special guest on the River LINE Saturday, December 10, as Santa Claus himself delivered goodies to kids from underserved communities on the River LINE “Polar Express” ride for The Salvation Army. This is the first time that

NJ TRANSIT has partnered with The Salvation Army for this special holiday program to spread cheer and the warmth of the holiday season to these very special children, along with the family members who accompanied them.

“The spirit of generosity and goodwill embodied by The Salvation Army is shared by NJ TRANSIT, and reflects our organization’s determination to provide critical services to residents across the state,” said New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT Board Chair Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti. “We embrace the opportunity to partner with the Salvation Army, and look forward to bringing joy to the communities we serve throughout the holiday season.”

“Partnering for the first time with The Salvation Army this year has been a pleasure for

NJ TRANSIT, and a joy for so many special children,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin Corbett. “NJ TRANSIT is proud to work with The Salvation Army to bring a little bit of magic into lives of these children through our Polar Express ride, and we hope to continue this partnership for many years to come.”

"The Salvation Army is delighted to partner with our good friends at NJ TRANSIT and United States Cold Storage for this special, inaugural event,” said Major Keith Maynor, Administrator, The Salvation Army - Camden, NJ. “This holiday season is about giving, especially to those that continue to face grave uncertainties. After months of planning, we are humbled to be a part of this joyous occasion."

“United States Cold Storage is proud to expand its partnership with The Salvation Army Kroc Center, Camden, NJ to include the inaugural “Polar Express” train ride aboard the River LINE,” said United States Cold Storage Human Resource Manager, Employee Experience Paige Salvador.  “This magical experience will create a special holiday memory for children in the Camden area. The collaboration to create the ‘Polar Express’ illustrates how the Camden community comes together to strengthen our community through love and support of its neighbors.”

The “Polar Express” ride departed the Waterfront Entertainment Complex for its two-hour festive ride between Camden and Burlington South.

New Jersey Transit Police and the Camden Fire Department accompanied families to the light rail station where the honored guests were given a golden ticket before boarding the “Polar Express”. The children and their families then stepped on board the specially decorated holiday wonderland light rail vehicle complete with caroling volunteer elves.
