Take NJ TRANSIT to the Great Outdoors
Looking for a fun time this summer? How about a great day in the outdoors? You may know we offer service to many sports and entertainment destinations. But did you know we can also transport you to many of the state’s parks, fishing holes and hiking/biking trails?
Our TRANSIT to Trails web page on njtransit.com highlights the recreational destinations served within a mile of an NJ TRANSIT bus stop, train station or light rail station. You can find more than 45 parks to choose from, all reachable by public transportation.
Our TRANSIT to Trails webpage gives instructions on how to use the web page’s interactive map to make the most of your outdoor experience. When you click on the tree or fish icons, popups will appear that provide you with the name and location of the park, a link to the park’s website and the NJ TRANSIT service that operates within one mile of a park entrance, trailhead, or meeting place. A “Zoom to” option gives you a closer look at the bus routes, bus stops, and/or the rail or light rail services and stations nearby.
Liberty State Park, served by four bus routes and Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (left), is a popular recreation area on the Hudson River waterfront in Jersey City.
Thinking about taking your bike to the park? NJ TRANSIT’s Bike Aboard Program may be an option for you based on your day and time of travel. Please check the rules and regulations closely before traveling with a bike on our system.
