AARON BINDER
Aaron Binder is currently serving as New Jersey’s Acting State Treasurer while he awaits confirmation approval from the State Senate. He was appointed by Governor Mikie Sherrill and began his service in her cabinet when she assumed office on January 20, 2026.
As Treasurer, Mr. Binder oversees one of the largest state Treasury departments in the nation. With over 3,000 employees and 13 divisions, the New Jersey Department of the Treasury is responsible for management and oversight of the State Budget, the collection and administration of State taxes, fees, and revenues, the issuance of State debt, and the management of the pension and health benefit plans for public employees statewide. Additionally, the department includes the State’s central procurement agency for goods and services; the division responsible for oversight, design, construction and leasing of State facilities; the State Lottery; and the Division of Investment – one of the largest pension fund managers in the U.S.
Mr. Binder joined the department in 2021 as Deputy State Treasurer, a role in which he assisted in managing the State budget and overseeing the Office of Management and Budget, the Office of Revenue and Economic Analysis and the Division of Taxation. Additionally, Mr. Binder served on the Stay NJ Task Force charged with implementing sweeping changes to New Jersey’s property tax relief programs for senior citizens, which resulted in the creation of a single streamlined application to allow taxpayers to apply for three programs simultaneously.
Previously, Mr. Binder served in the New Jersey Assembly Majority Office (AMO), as part of the leadership team, including his most recent role as Deputy Executive Director. During his 16-year tenure with the AMO, he was the lead Aide for the Assembly Budget Committee and oversaw many key policy issues, including the State budget, public employee pension & benefits, banking and insurance, transportation, and health care. Prior to joining the AMO, he served in a number of financial roles for Congreso De Latinos Unidos, Amtrak, and the City of Philadelphia.
Mr. Binder earned his MGA from the University of Pennsylvania's Fels Institute of Government, and his BA from Brandeis University.
