From Kindergarten to High School, Students Will Learn the Importance of Safety

NEWARK, NJ — The school bell is ringing, and NJ TRANSIT is back in the classroom—bringing rail, school bus and pedestrian safety to life through exciting, age-appropriate education programs for students of all abilities. With the launch of its dynamic school-year initiatives starting in the fall and spring—Special SEAT (Safety Education Awareness Training), Protecting Our Pedestrians (POP), Safety Town, and Safety Rules! —NJ TRANSIT is putting safety front and center for students from kindergarten through high school. These exciting programs are now booking for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026.

Special SEAT (Safety Education Awareness Training)

Protecting Our Pedestrians (POP)

Safety Town – A City Built for Safety

In partnership with University Hospital of Newark and local organizations, NJ TRANSIT brings Safety Town to life—a fully mobile mini-city with traffic lights, sidewalks, crosswalks, tracks, and more! Kids practice real-life safety in a kid-sized world, learning how to make safe decisions whether biking, walking, or commuting.

Safety Rules! For All Students

Whether it’s by bus, light rail, or train, Safety Rules! delivers core transit safety lessons to students in grades K–12 through hands-on learning, age-appropriate media and group discussions.

The Safety Education Program team also provides presentations and resources for adults, libraries and community groups. From PTA meetings to senior centers, the team is available to deliver engaging safety sessions to help protect everyone in our communities.

New for 2025-2026: Permanent School Safety Partnerships

We’re proud to introduce permanent safety partnerships with schools located near rail tracks—ensuring consistent, year-round safety reinforcement. 

These partnerships include:

Two guaranteed presentations per school year (Fall and Spring), with NJ TRANSIT Safety Education Specialists delivering customized safety programming covering School Bus, Rail, and Light Rail.

“Safety Week” collaborations with schools to amplify awareness through assemblies, activities, and immersive learning.

Together, we’re building safer habits, stronger partnerships, and a statewide culture of transportation safety.
