NJ TRANSIT POSTS LIGHT RAIL SCHEDULE

NEWARK, NJ, FEBRUARY 23, 2004 – NJ TRANSIT today posted its River LINE public timetable featuring scheduling innovations designed to squeeze maximum utility out of the new rail line when it opens March 14.
The new schedule features two early weekday arrivals in Trenton from the Florence and Bordentown Park & Ride stations, aimed at serving Northeast Corridor commuters; a special late night Saturday-only service with trains operating between Camden and Trenton up until midnight; and nightly service till midnight from the Camden Waterfront Entertainment Center to the 36th Street Station Park & Ride in Pennsauken.
“Late night service between the Camden waterfront and the 36th Street Station Park & Ride in Pennsauken will give customers an attractive alternative when traveling to entertainment and sporting events,” said NJ TRANSIT Executive Director George D. Warrington. “The late night Saturday service between Camden and Trenton also provides River LINE customers with opportunities to attend cultural, entertainment and sporting events in Camden and Trenton, as well as late night rail connections to venues in New York City and Philadelphia,” he added.
Beginning today on RiverLINE.com, customers can download light rail schedules. Since RiverLINE.com was launched last Friday, nearly 2,000 people have visited the site.
Under the new scheduling plan, the last weekday train will leave Trenton at 9:05 p.m., giving customers arriving on a scheduled 9:01 p.m. Northeast Corridor train at Trenton Rail Station the opportunity to transfer to River LINE service. In Camden, the last weekday train will now depart the Camden Waterfront Entertainment Center Station at midnight to the 36th St. Station Park & Ride in Pennsauken.
River LINE service will operate between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. with limited late night service operating until midnight between the Camden Waterfront Entertainment Center and the 36th Street Park & Ride. In addition, on Saturdays, late night service will be available at all stations between Trenton and Camden till 12 midnight. On weekdays, trains will depart Camden and Trenton every 30 minutes beginning at the top of the hour. On weekends, service will depart from Camden and Trenton 15 minutes after and before each hour up until 9 p.m., when late night service begins operating on the hour and half hour. The fare will be $1.10, making the River LINE service one of the most affordable transportation bargains in New Jersey.

Late night light rail service will run the entire length of the system allowing customers attending entertainment, cultural or sporting events in Camden, Trenton, New York and Philadelphia light rail service home.

NJ TRANSIT is continuing to gear up for the much-anticipated River LINE debut. The Corporation kicked-off its marketing campaign last week with the launch of RiverLINE.com. This week, 80,000 pamphlets were mailed to homes along the line to give customers information about parking, stations, and fares. Other marketing initiatives include:
· A new wallet-size user’s guide is available at the Walter Rand Transportation Center, the Aquarium, Rutgers University, Trenton Train Station and PATCO.
· Customers can receive the user’s guide and a schedule through the mail by logging onto RiverLINE.com and registering on the site to receive information about the new service.
· River LINE schedules will also be distributed beginning on Monday, February 23, and will be available at the Walter Rand Transportation Center, Trenton Train Station, the Aquarium, Rutgers University and PATCO.
· River LINE panel cards were distributed last week on seats aboard NJ TRANSIT trains and buses that connect to the River LINE service.
· In conjunction with the start of service, newspaper and radio advertising will begin in March.
