NJ TRANSIT BUS, RAIL AND LIGHT RAIL SCHEDULES FOR THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY WEEKEND
Added Service to New York Parade Available
GLEN RIDGE, NJ, November 26, 2002 – Glen Ridge has taken delivery of its second shuttle bus from NJ TRANSIT’s Rail Service Shuttle Program, providing Glen Ridge residents with transportation to the Glen Ridge Train Station during the rush hour. The shuttles are used during off-peak hours for other municipal purposes.
Glen Ridge received their first shuttle bus in January 2002, and began service on April 15, 2002. Based on the success of the shuttle service, Glen Ridge was awarded the second shuttle this month. The shuttle buses make stops throughout the Borough at designated locations.
More than 30 communities and county organizations have received 20-passenger minibuses -- free of charge -- to operate commuter shuttles to train stations and bus corridors during peak-hours. During off-peak hours and on weekends, the vehicles can be used for other community-based transportation services. New Jersey Congressmen William Pascrell and Donald Payne secured Federal funding for the program. NJ TRANSIT introduced the program in 1999.
“ I established this federally-funded mass transit solution to ease people’s daily commute, get cars of our roads, improve our environment, and enhance the quality of life in our neighborhoods,” said Congressman Pascrell. “We needed to be innovative and find ways to better our transportation system, but more importantly, better people’s daily lives. That is all happening in Glen Ridge, and I am pleased that the service will now be extended to many more residents.”
“We are extremely excited and pleased to receive a second shuttle bus from Congressman Pascrell and NJ TRANSIT,” said Glen Ridge Mayor Steven Plate. “NJ TRANSIT provides tremendous access to New York City, and the second shuttle bus makes the commute much easier for

“NJ TRANSIT has proven its dedication to rail and bus access by awarding Glen Ridge a second shuttle bus,” said NJ TRANSIT Executive Director George D. Warrington. “In the days of record ridership levels and limited parking on our bus and rail systems, our customers need and deserve alternate ways to reach our systems. Thanks to the hard work and determination of our Congressmen, NJ TRANSIT can make that happen.”
The state-of-the-art minibuses are equipped with a wheelchair lift and two wheelchair securements, making them accessible to people with disabilities. Other amenities include heating and air conditioning, reading lamps and overhead package racks.
