NJ TRANSIT APPROVES WORK ON PLAUDERVILLE STATION

Federal stimulus funding for new high-level platforms, improved amenities and more convenient boarding location

NEWARK, NJ — Construction of a new and improved Plauderville Station in the City of Garfield will begin this fall, under a contract approved today by the NJ TRANST Board of Directors that will make the station fully accessible to customers with disabilities and will provide more convenient access to the station from the parking area. 

“I have always worked hard in Congress to make sure investments in our infrastructure continue to come back to New Jersey, including $2.8 million for Bergen Intermodal funding for Plauderville,” said U.S. Rep. Steve Rothman, whose district includes Garfield.  “I continue to work hard to ensure New Jersey gets its fair share of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds so shovel-ready projects just like this one could boost our economy, create jobs and promote the use of public transportation.”

 “The Plauderville Station project demonstrates NJ TRANSIT’s commitment to improving access to public transportation and making it a viable option for all New Jersey residents,” said Transportation Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT Board Chairman Stephen Dilts.  “With funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the project will help stimulate the economy by creating jobs now and a long-term asset for our customers.”

The Board authorized a $7.9 million contract with Anselmi & DeCicco, Inc. of Maplewood, NJ, for the construction of two 450-foot high-level platforms, as well as a new heated waiting area on the inbound platform, canopies, lighting, electronic signage, closed-circuit television cameras, ramps and sidewalks.

The new platforms will be built adjacent to the parking area located between Midland Avenue and Outwater Lane, south of the existing low-level platforms, providing customers with more convenient access to the station. 

“Construction of new high-level platforms will ensure full accessibility for customers with disabilities, while enhancing overall convenience for everyone who uses the station,” said NJ TRANSIT Executive Director Richard Sarles.  “And, the relocated platforms will provide customers with immediate access from the parking area to the station.” 

Located on the Bergen County Line, Plauderville Station serves nearly 400 customers on a typical weekday. 

In addition to funding secured by Congressman Rothman, the Plauderville Station project is being funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Construction is expected to begin this fall, with completion anticipated in spring 2011.
