NJ TRANSIT ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE FOR LABOR DAY HOLIDAY

NEWARK, NJ, August 28, 2002 -- On Labor Day -- Monday, September 2 -- NJ TRANSIT trains and the Newark City Subway will operate on a Sunday schedule. Most NJ TRANSIT buses will also operate on a Sunday schedule. However, some routes in north Jersey will follow Saturday schedules. Bus passengers should check their timetables for exact information on Labor Day service. Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will follow a weekend schedule on Labor Day.

NJ TRANSIT will operate early getaway trains on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast and Raritan Valley lines on Friday, August 30.

Northeast Corridor

  • Train 8847, an early getaway train, will depart Penn Station New York at 1:54 p.m., with stops at Newark Penn Station, Newark International Airport, and will operate express to Metropark, then make all stops to Trenton except Jersey Avenue, arriving in Trenton at 3:09 p.m.

North Jersey Coast Line

  • Train 8301, an early getaway train, will depart Newark Penn Station at 3:45 p.m., operate express to Woodbridge, then make all stops to Bay Head, arriving there at 5:40 p.m. Passengers will not need to change trains at Long Branch. Connecting service from New York will leave Penn Station New York at 3:26 p.m.

Raritan Valley Line

  • Train 5425, the 1:06 p.m. departure from Newark Penn Station, will be extended to High Bridge and make all stops.
  • Train 8529, an early getaway train, will depart Newark Penn Station at 3:32 p.m. and make all stops to Raritan, arriving there at 4:29 p.m. Connecting service from New York will leave Penn Station New York at 3:08 p.m.
  • Train 5711, the 6:23 p.m. departure from Newark Penn Station, will be combined with train 5903, which leaves Newark at 6:29 p.m. The combined train makes all stops to High Bridge.

The statewide transit agency's bus and rail Weekend Family Super Saver Fare, which allows two children 11 and under to travel free with each fare-paying adult, will be in effect from 7 p.m. Friday, August 30 until 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 3. Senior citizen and round-trip excursion tickets will be valid without restriction throughout the period.
