NJ TRANSIT AND BAYONNE SEEKING PARTNERS FOR TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT

NJ TRANSIT Property Located Adjacent to 34th Street Light Rail Station Slated for Mixed Use Development

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 25, 2019

NEWARK NJ – NJ TRANSIT and the City of Bayonne are collaborating to create an exciting new mixed-use development along the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR). The development is slated to be built on four and a half acres of NJ TRANSIT owned land adjacent to the Bayonne 34th Street Station.

“Transit and walkable communities are the wave of the future, and we are proud to be at the forefront,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin Corbett. “Bayonne has been a great partner as we’ve moved forward with this concept, and with this call for developers, we’ve taken the next step to realizing our shared vision.”

“The City of Bayonne looks forward to working with NJ TRANSIT in a private-public partnership to develop a portion of the 34th Street Light Rail parking lot,” said Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis.  “The City of Bayonne welcomes development that takes advantage of the convenient commutes offered by the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system.”

NJ TRANSIT has issued a Request for Qualifications and Expressions of Interest to identify an experienced private developer or joint venture of developers to implement a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) on NJ TRANSIT property.

The goal of this project is to combine moderate to high-density residential units with retail, office and community spaces to create a vibrant walkable community with easy access to regional amenities and destinations via NJ TRANSIT’s light rail services.

To promote this and other transit-oriented development opportunities on and near NJ TRANSIT properties, NJ TRANSIT has developed a website to host project documents for interested bidders and members of the community to access.  The website https://www.njtransitdevelopment.com/ launched in March. Interested developers and builders should visit the site regularly as it will be the prime location for posting of upcoming opportunities to bid on NJ TRANSIT-related development projects.
