NJ TRANSIT TO ADJUST SCHEDULES FOR MEMORIAL DAY
Pony Express and Expanded Summer Schedule Featured
NEWARK, NJ, May 22, 2003 – NJ TRANSIT trains will operate on a Sunday schedule on Memorial Day – Monday, May 26. Many NJ TRANSIT buses will also operate on a Sunday schedule. However, some routes that operate to malls and major shopping areas will follow Saturday schedules. Customers should check their timetables for exact information on Memorial Day service. Hudson-Bergen Light Rail line will follow a weekend schedule on Memorial Day. The Newark City Subway will follow a Sunday schedule using Light Rail Vehicles on Memorial Day, May 26.

On Friday, May 23, NJ TRANSIT will operate early getaway trains on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast and Raritan Valley lines. Additional bus service will also be operated from the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
GETAWAY SERVICE ON FRIDAY, MAY 23
Rail
On the Northeast Corridor, train 8847 will depart New York Penn Station at 1:54 p.m., stopping at Newark and Newark International Airport, operating express to Metropark and then making all stops – except Jersey Avenue -- to Trenton, arriving there at 3:09 p.m.
On the North Jersey Coast Line, train 8301 will depart Newark Penn Station at 3:45 p.m., operate express to Woodbridge, and make all stops to Bay Head, arriving there at 5:40 p.m.
On the Raritan Valley Line:
Train 8529 will depart Newark Penn Station at 3:32 p.m. and make all stops to Raritan, arriving there at 4:31 p.m.
Train 5425 will depart Newark Penn Station at 1:06 p.m. and make all stops to High Bridge, arriving there at 2:30 p.m.
Train 5711 (6:23 p.m. departure from Newark Penn Station) and Train 5903 (6:29 p.m. departure from Newark Penn Station) will be combined and make all stops to High Bridge, except Finderne. The combined train will depart Newark Penn Station at 6:29 p.m.
Bus
Additional service will be provided on a number of bus routes leaving the Port Authority Bus Terminal between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., depending on customer demand.
Beginning on Saturday, May 24, weekend service will be extended to Seaside Park on the No. 67 bus route. On weekends and holidays, a morning bus will depart Jersey City’s Journal Square Transportation Center at 9:22 a.m. and Newark Penn Station at 9:45 a.m., arriving in Seaside Heights at 11:38 a.m. and Seaside Park at 11:43 a.m. Return service will depart Seaside Park at 5:20 p.m. and Seaside Heights at 5:25 p.m. arriving at Newark Penn Station at 7:14 p.m. and Jersey City’s Journal Square Transportation Center at 7:37 p.m.
MONMOUTH PARK SERVICE
The Pony Express Train will operate on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays through Sunday, August 31. For customer convenience, the Pony Express fare includes Grandstand admission. Daily service to Monmouth Park is also available. This service will not operate on Labor Day, Monday, September 1.
Train 2397, the Pony Express, will depart Hoboken at 10:25 a.m., stop in Newark, Elizabeth, Rahway, Perth Amboy and South Amboy, and arrive at Monmouth Park at 11:42 p.m.
The return Pony Express trip will depart Monmouth Park 20 minutes after the final race and make the same stops as the train listed above.
Long Branch-bound trains 7229, 7233, 7237, 7241, 7253 and 7257 will make an additional stop at Monmouth Park approximately three minutes after the train departs Little Silver. Customers should check their timetables for details.
New York-bound trains 7232, 7236, 7240, 7252, 7256 and 7260 will make an additional stop at Monmouth Park approximately three minutes after the train departs Long Branch. Customers should check their timetables for details.
Beginning Tuesday, May 27, weekday trains with the “M” stop on the timetable will stop at Monmouth Park through Friday, August 29.
NJ TRANSIT’s bus and rail Weekend Family Super Saver Fare, which allows two
children 11 and under to travel free with each fare-paying adult, will be in effect from 7
p.m. Friday, May 23 until 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 27. Some restrictions apply.
