NEWARK, NJ ¿ NJ TRANSIT is advising customers planning to attend the 87th PGA Championship in Springfield this week to purchase roundtrip train tickets in advance to avoid potentially long lines. More than 200,000 visitors are expected to attend the event at Baltusrol Golf Club, and as many as 100,000 of them are expected to use NJ TRANSIT trains to get there.

NJ TRANSIT will be the most convenient way to access the PGA Championship, as there is no public parking at or near the event. PGA guests are encouraged to take trains on the Morris & Essex Lines¿including MidTOWN DIRECT trains from Penn Station New York¿to Summit Station, where PGA-sponsored shuttle service to Baltusrol will run continuously.

NJ TRANSIT has added 261 trains to the Morris & Essex schedule during PGA week¿37 extra trains each weekday and 38 trains each weekend day. Complete PGA-week schedule information is available online at www.njtransit.com.

To assist customers, additional customer service and police personnel are deployed to key stations on the system, including Summit, Secaucus Junction, Newark Broad Street and Penn Station New York.

Secaucus Junction: Your Connection to the Course

Secaucus Junction connects 10 of NJ TRANSIT¿s 11 commuter rail lines, providing customers with convenient transfers to Summit-bound trains from the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, Main/Bergen County Line and the Pascack Valley Line. PGA guests traveling from New York City enjoy direct service from New York Penn Station. (Travel time is approximately 35 minutes.) Frequent direct service is also available from Hoboken Terminal, which is accessible by PATH and trans-Hudson ferry service.

Customer advice

  • Purchase round-trip tickets in advance to avoid potentially long lines. To save time, use ticket vending machines and purchase round-trip tickets before starting your trip. Ticket vending machines accept credit and debit cards, as well as cash. Tickets purchased onboard trains are subject to a $5 surcharge and must be purchased with cash.
  • Plan your trip. PGA guests should familiarize themselves with NJ TRANSIT schedules and fares prior to starting their trip. Keep in mind that certain items are prohibited on the grounds of Baltusrol Golf Club at all times, including:
    • All bags, purses and backpacks that exceed 12 inches in any dimension.
    • All personal electronics (i.e. radio, cell phones, pagers, etc.)
    • Bikes, strollers, coolers, ladders, milk crates and metal-spiked golf shoes
    • Cameras during the Championship Rounds
  • Leave the car at home. Parking on the NJ TRANSIT system is extremely limited¿especially during the workweek¿and PGA guests should consider being dropped off at the station. Those traveling from New York State and northern New Jersey will find available parking at Ramsey Route 17 Station, which offers more than 1,250 parking spaces. Ramsey parking fees are $4 per weekday and $2 per weekend day.
