Project Overview
A World-Class Transportation Hub that is Uniquely Camden
The NJ TRANSIT Walter Rand Transportation Center (WRTC) Improvement Project is an exciting redevelopment project that will transform the current facility into a modern, vibrant, and customer-focused transit hub for the entire South Jersey region, including Camden residents and visitors. The new WRTC will be fully accessible and compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Virtual and in-person Public Information Centers (PIC) were held on November 14, 2024, where nearly 200 Camden residents, members of the public, and stakeholders shared their feedback on what they would like to see in a modern transit hub. The WRTC Improvement Project is currently in the preliminary engineering phase and we will continue to seek your input.
The Vision
The Benefits
- Safety and security improvements for pedestrians and transit users.
- A modern and vibrant facility featuring local art, public spaces, and customer amenities.
- Full accessibility and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Better access to transit and improved connections between bus, commuter rail, and light rail.
- Accommodates current and future demand for increased bus service.
Gateway to Camden
Residents of Camden, along with community organizations, leaders, and small and large businesses, have worked
hard to reclaim the city’s story and promote its strength and beauty. The new WRTC will serve as a gateway to
Camden and welcome visitors offering many their first glimpse into the invincible city. Through community art and
architectural design, our goal is to showcase Camden’s historic past and bright future.
Community Involvement

NJ TRANSIT held its most recent PIC on November 14, 2024, virtually and in person at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Participants were provided an opportunity to view and vote on design options for the new WRTC and ask questions directly to the NJ TRANSIT Project Team.
