What is MicroLink?
NJ TRANSIT, in partnership with Via, has launched MicroLink — a pilot program providing convenient, on-demand microtransit service. This complimentary service is designed to help customers connect between their homes and the nearest NJ TRANSIT bus stop, making public transit more accessible for everyday riders.
This program is:
- Fully on-demand
- Easy to book through the MicroLink app
- Completely FREE during the pilot period
- Wheelchair accessible vehicles available upon request

About the Pilot Program
- Duration: Two-year pilot program, launching April 2026
- Cost: Complimentary for all riders during the pilot in the Bergen County and Monmouth County service areas indicated
- Service Hours: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM (ET). Please see the holiday schedule below for dates when service will not operate
- Purpose: To provide flexible, on-demand transit that improves first- and last-mile connections and expands access to NJ TRANSIT service in select communities
- Partnership: NJ TRANSIT is partnering with Via, a global transportation technology company, to power the MicroLink service - using Via’s app-based platform and routing technology to provide flexible, on-demand rides that connect customers to transit

- Service efficiency and vehicle utilization
- Customer satisfaction and accessibility outcomes
- Long-term viability for permanent service expansion

Service is limited to designated zones. All trips must begin or end at designated connection points.
What Is First Mile / Last Mile?
MicroLink is built to solve the most common barrier to using public transit — getting to and from the bus stop.
- First Mile: The trip from your home to your nearest NJ TRANSIT bus stop. MicroLink picks you up and drops you right at the stop.
- Last Mile: The trip from your NJ TRANSIT stop back to your home. Book a return ride directly from the app.
This service is specifically designed to bridge that gap — making transit more convenient, accessible, and reliable for everyday commuters.

How to Schedule a Trip
1. Download the MicroLink App
Available free on both major app stores.
2. Create an Account
Follow the simple signup steps in the app. Enter your basic information and confirm you are within the eligible service zone.
No smartphone? Call (973) 233-4047 and a support agent will help you book over the phone.
3. Book Your Ride
Enter your pickup and drop-off location, then tap Book This Ride.
Note: All trips must have an NJ TRANSIT bus stop as either the origin or destination.
After booking, you will receive:
- Vehicle details and driver information
- Estimated arrival time (ETA)
- Real-time driver tracking in the app
- Directions to your designated virtual pickup point
About virtual stops: MicroLink operates corner-to-corner rather than door-to-door. You may need to walk a short distance to a nearby pickup point. This keeps wait times low for all riders.
Rider Guidelines
Trip Rules
- All rides must begin or end at a designated NJ TRANSIT bus stop.
- Service operates Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM only.
- MicroLink is on-demand only — no pre-booking. Request your ride 20–30 minutes before you need to leave.
- Riders must be 13 years of age or older. Children under 13 may ride when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Car seats are not provided. Riders traveling with children who require a car seat must bring their own.
Passengers & Pets
- You may book rides for yourself and any additional passengers.
- Service animals are always welcome without restriction.
- Non-service pets are permitted but must be kept in an airline-approved carrier.
Conduct & Safety
- No smoking, e-cigarettes, or vaporizers.
- No alcohol or open containers.
- Food and drink should be limited inside the vehicle. All drinks must have lids.
- Limit phone calls to quick logistics during shared rides.
- Limit personal items to one piece of luggage or a reasonably-sized bag per rider.

MicroLink does not operate on weekends or on the following holidays:
- New Year's Day
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monmouth County only)
- President's Day (Monmouth County only)

- Christmas Day
Zero Tolerance Policy
Driver partners are prohibited from operating while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Inappropriate, threatening, or violent behavior by any rider or driver partner will not be tolerated. If you feel you are in imminent danger, call 911 immediately. After the ride, report issues via the app or by emailing the support team.
Anti-Discrimination Policy
Via does not tolerate discrimination of any kind against riders or driver partners on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the service really free?
Yes. MicroLink is completely complimentary during the pilot period. There is no fare or fee to ride. But the cost of the bus fare still applies.
- Who can use the service?
Anyone traveling within the designated service zone to or from a designated NJ TRANSIT bus stop. Riders must be 13 years of age or older. Children under 13 may ride when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- How far in advance can I book?
MicroLink is an on-demand service — there is no pre-booking. We recommend requesting your ride 20–30 minutes before you need to leave.
- Can I bring additional passengers?
Yes. You can bring 1 additional passenger with you.
- How old do I have to be to book a trip?
You must be at least 13 years old to book a trip.
- Are wheelchair accessible vehicles available?
Yes. To request a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV), tap Accessibility in the app menu and complete the form before booking — or call 973-233-4047 for assistance.
- Can I bring a service animal or pet?
Service animals are always welcome without restriction. Non-service pets are permitted but must be kept in an airline-approved carrier.
- What if I need to cancel my ride?
Cancel directly from the app or by calling 973-233-4047. Please cancel as early as possible — last-minute cancellations can affect availability for other riders.
- Why do I have to walk to meet my driver?
MicroLink operates corner-to-corner rather than door-to-door. The app assigns you to a nearby virtual pickup point, usually at a nearby corner. This allows the system to efficiently serve multiple passengers without significantly adding to anyone's trip time.
- What if my driver leaves without me?
All drivers will wait up to 2 minutes. Re-book your ride in the app, then email [email protected] with details about the situation.
- I left something in the vehicle — what do I do?
Email [email protected] with a description of the missing item. The support team will do their best to locate it and notify you where it can be retrieved.
- Can I book rides without a smartphone?
Yes. Call 973-233-4047 and a support agent will help you book your ride over the phone.
- How do I update my account or add favorite addresses?
To update your profile, tap the menu in the top-left corner of the app and tap your name. To add favorite addresses, navigate to the menu and select Favorites. Saved addresses appear as quick-booking options on the home screen.
- How do I delete my account?
Navigate to the menu, tap your name or profile picture, then tap Delete my account at the bottom of the page. To request data deletion, email [email protected].
