Bus No. 351 service restored for fans

September 15, 2008

NEWARK, NJ — In an effort to give football fans additional travel options, NJ TRANSIT today announced that it will restore direct bus service from the Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) for football games at Giants Stadium while continuing to operate the new rail/bus service via Secaucus Junction.

Beginning Sunday, September 21, NJ TRANSIT will operate No. 351 direct bus service from the PABT to the Meadowlands Sports Complex for all Jets and Giants home football games. In addition, the new No. 353 rail/bus shuttle from Penn Station New York with connecting bus service at Secaucus Junction will also be available for football fans going to the Meadowlands – giving customers both rail and bus options for games this season.

"Through the experience of both teams’ home-openers, we learned that we need to provide both modes of service to address the growth in ridership on the No. 351 service to the stadium," said Richard Sarles, Executive Director of NJ TRANSIT. "Clearly, this allows us to respond to fans’ needs as well as meet growing ridership which is up about 50 percent in advance of new rail link service coming on line next year."

"We appreciate NJ TRANSIT’s flexibility and responsiveness in providing an additional option for our fans traveling from Manhattan, "said Pat Hanlon, spokesperson for the New York Giants. "We have had two big events in the past two weeks – the NFL Kickoff game on Thursday, September 4 and Jets-New England yesterday – that certainly have presented challenges, and NJ TRANSIT is demonstrating it will do what is necessary to meet the challenge."

"Mass transit is an important alternative for Jets and Giants fans to attend games. We support NJ TRANSIT’s decision and we look forward to working with them in the future to provide all fans with the best service possible, " said Bob Parente, Jets Vice President of Operations.

All other events at the Meadowlands Sports Complex – soccer games, horse racing, concerts, etc. – will be served by the No. 353 rail/bus service from Penn Station New York with connecting bus service at Secaucus Junction to the Meadowlands.

Customers attending Meadowlands events are encouraged to visit before starting their trip.

NJ TRANSIT is the nation's largest statewide public transportation system providing more than 895,000 weekday trips on 240 bus routes, three light rail lines and 11 commuter rail lines. It is the third largest transit system in the country with 164 rail stations, 60 light rail stations and more than 18,000 bus stops linking major points in New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia.
