Have a Bus or Rail Monthly Pass? Ride the Newark Light Rail at no additional cost!
If you purchase a monthly bus or rail pass worth $49 or more, you can ride the Newark
Light Rail at no additional cost. If your monthly rail pass costs less than $49, you
can upgrade your pass for use on any one-zone local bus trip or use on the Newark
Light Rail. The total price for the upgraded pass is $49.

Save with a Monthly Light Rail Pass
If you do not use a bus or rail monthly pass, you can purchase one just
for the Newark
Light Rail and receive a discount - and the more you ride the greater
the savings.
Monthly passes can be purchased from Ticket Vending Machines, Ticket
Offices and
online through Quik-Tik® (click
here for details). Please note that
monthly passes do
not need to be time stamped.
Your monthly pass is valid for one-zone of travel on NJ TRANSIT buses,
NJ TRANSIT
contract carriers and local bus routes operated by private carriers
accepting an NJ
TRANSIT Monthly Bus Card.
One-Way Ticket Transfers
Taking the bus to the Newark Light Rail? If you have a one-way bus ticket, purchase
a one-zone transfer for $.65 from your NJ TRANSIT Bus Operator to ride the Newark
Light Rail.
Taking the Light Rail to the Bus? If you are purchasing your light rail ticket from a
Ticket Vending Machine (TVM), you can buy a one-zone transfer at the same time,
which will be valid for connecting to a one-zone bus ride.
One-Way Light Rail Tickets
One-way tickets are available from Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) located on the station platform. The Newark Light Rail operates a "Proof of Payment" fare collection system. This policy requires that you have a time-stamped ticket prior to boarding subway cars and retain your ticket until you exit the subway station. (click
