If you are an NJ TRANSIT 156R, 158 or 159R bus customer, you now have another travel option to get home in the evening.
NJ TRANSIT and NY Waterway have partnered on a pilot program that allows customers to save up to 30 minutes by bypassing Port Authority Bus Terminal and Lincoln Tunnel traffic in the evening. This new program enables you to take your NJ TRANSIT 156R, 158 or 159R bus into Port Authority in the morning and return by NY Waterway ferry to Port Imperial Ferry Terminal in Weehawken, NJ between 4:10 p.m. and 7:50 p.m., Monday through Friday.
To begin your evening trip, take one of NY Waterway’s shuttle buses that travel along five routes and take you to the W. 39th Street - Midtown Manhattan ferry terminal. There you will take a ferry to Weehawken and connect with dedicated NY Waterway shuttle buses for northbound service along River Road, Gorge Road and Palisade Avenue. This return service option is only available between 4:20 p.m. and 8:05 p.m. During other times, you should take NJ TRANSIT’s regular bus service from Port Authority Bus Terminal or from Port Imperial Ferry Terminal along Port Imperial Blvd. to get home. Ferries also are available from World Financial Center and Wall Street/Pier 11 to Port Imperial Ferry Terminal.
Bus-Ferry monthly passes and 10-trip tickets may be purchased at NJ TRANSIT’s ticket windows and ticket vending machines at Port Authority Bus Terminal. Each 10-trip ticket includes a ticket to travel on a 156R, 158 or 159R bus in the morning and a return ticket for the ferry in the evening (20 tickets total). Costs vary based on zones traveled.
