Background
This station is owned by the Village of Ridgewood and is on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
Ridgewood is a key station under the Americans with Disabilities Act (see the "Rail System Improvements" section for more information on commuter rail accessibility and key stations).
Accessibility improvements at Ridgewood Station will allow access to customers with disabilities. Customers will be able to use this station to reach other accessible stations on the line such as Ramsey, Rutherford, Frank R. Lautenberg Secaucus Junction, or Hoboken Terminal.
Project Scope
The scope of work includes the construction of two full-length high-level platforms with elevators, canopies and lighting; addition of accessible parking, curb ramps, and sidewalks to reach the new platforms and the existing station building. Accessibility improvements to the station building includes the installation of new, accessible restrooms and modifications to the ticket window. The previously proposed pedestrian tunnel has been deleted from the scope of work.
Project Cost
$41 million
Current Status
Design was completed with input from the village of Ridgewood and the construction contract was advertised. Construction began in early 2009 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.
Benefits
The accessibility improvements will provide barrier-free access to rail transit for all NJ TRANSIT riders at Ridgewood.
