NJ TRANSIT will provide enhanced rail, light rail and bus service for travelers during the New Year’s weekend, providing a convenient and safe trip for the holidays.
Customers are reminded to purchase their tickets in advance before boarding a train, bus or light rail vehicle. Newark City Subway and Hudson-Bergen Light Rail customers must also validate their tickets before riding.
As an added convenience NJ TRANSIT will extend its Weekend Family Super Saver Fare, which allows two children 11 and under to travel free with each fare-paying adult, will be in effect from 7 p.m. Monday, December 30 until 6 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2003. Senior citizen and round-trip excursion tickets will be valid without restriction throughout the period.
Following is a summary of the service planned by NJ TRANSIT for the upcoming holiday weekend.
Trains will operate on weekday schedules, with additional service as noted below.
Buses will follow a weekday schedule. Additional service will be provided from the Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) during the early afternoon hours and to the PABT in the early evening. Selected routes will provide additional service. Details are listed below. Customers should also check special service notices, the special bus holiday travel brochure — available at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, Newark Penn Station and other major bus terminals — or NJ TRANSIT’s website, www.njtransit.com, for exact information.
The Newark City Subway will operate a weekday schedule.
Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate a special schedule, with reduced morning peak period service, additional evening and late night service and extended hours of operation until 3 a.m. New Year’s Day.
To accommodate increased travel, ticket offices at Penn Station New York and Hoboken Terminal will be open until 2 a.m. New Year’s Day. Ticket offices at the Port Authority Bus Terminal will remain open all night. Customers shouldpurchase round-trip bus or rail tickets to save time on their return trips. Customers using Hudson-Bergen Light Rail or the Newark City Subway must validate their tickets before boarding.

Early afternoon getaway bus service from the Port Authority Bus Terminal between 12 noon and 4 p.m. Some routes will operate on an “as needed” basis:
The following Park/Rides will provide regularly scheduled bus service to New York City between 6 p.m. and midnight for the customers wishing to attend the evenings festivities: Allwood Park/Ride, Howell Park/Ride, North Bergen Park/Ride, Old Bridge Park/Ride, Ringwood Park/Ride, Vince Lombardi Park/Ride (until 8 p.m. only) and Willowbrook Park/Ride.
After 10 p.m., all buses departing the PABT will leave from the Upper Bus Level and New Annex Gates. Customers should check the special Holiday Bus Service brochure and service notices carefully to determine their correct boarding location.

Additional early morning rail service will be provided on the following lines:
An additional Atlantic City Line train will depart Atlantic City at 1:30 a.m. and make all stops to Cherry Hill, where it will arrive at 2:31 a.m.
Three additional Bergen County Line trains will depart Hoboken at 1:05 a.m., 2:05 a.m., and 3:05 a.m., making all stops to Suffern.
Four additional Gladstone Branch trains will depart Hoboken at 12:40 a.m., 1:40 a.m., 2:40 a.m. and 3:45 a.m. and make all station stops to Gladstone.
Two additional Main Line trains will depart Hoboken at 1:45 a.m. and 3:45 a.m. and make all station stops to Suffern except Delawanna.
An additional Port Jervis train will depart Hoboken at 1:35 a.m. with its first stop at Suffern. An extra train will depart Hoboken at 2:45 a.m. and make all Main Line and Port Jervis Line station stops except Delawanna.
Four additional MidTOWN DIRECT trains will depart New York at 12:50 a.m., 1:50 a.m., 2:50 a.m. and 3:50 a.m., making all station stops to Dover except East Orange, Highland Avenue and Mountain Station. Gladstone-bound passengers traveling on MidTOWN DIRECT from New York can connect with Gladstone Branch trains at Summit.
Five additional Northeast Corridor trains will depart New York at 12:53 a.m., 1:15 a.m., 2:15 a.m., 3:15 a.m. and 4:15 a.m., making all station stops to Trenton except Newark International Airport, North Elizabeth and Jersey Avenue. Two additional Northeast Corridor trains will depart Trenton at 2:30 a.m. and 3:50 a.m., making all station stops to New York except North Elizabeth and Jersey Avenue.
Two additional North Jersey Coast Line trains will depart New York at 2:01 a.m. and 4:21 a.m., making all stops to Long Branch except Newark International Airport, North Elizabeth and Avenel. Connecting Bay Head shuttle trains departing Long Branch at 3:30 a.m. and 5:50 a.m.
An additional Raritan Valley Line train will depart Newark Penn Station at 2:04 a.m. and make all station stops to Raritan except Garwood. Another Raritan Valley Line train will depart Newark Penn Station at 4:40 a.m. and make all station stops to Raritan, including Garwood.

New Year’s Day Early Morning Service Inbound to New York:
Until 6 a.m., all buses departing the PABT will leave from the Upper Bus Level and New Annex Gates. Customers should check the supplemental service brochure carefully to determine their correct boarding location.
Customers should be advised that while they will be allowed to enter the PABT building after midnight, only customers with a valid ticket will have access to buses departing New York via PABT gates.
