EXTRA SERVICE SET FOR NEW YEAR'S HOLIDAY WEEKEND

Money-saving Family Super Saver and off-peak fares remain in effect until January 5

NEWARK, NJ - NJ TRANSIT will operate 54 late-night trains after midnight on New Year's Day, as well as special late-night bus service from Port Authority Bus Terminal, to accommodate holiday revelers.

In addition, NJ TRANSIT will offer "early getaway" rail and bus service on Wednesday, December 31 for the benefit of customers leaving work early for the New Year's holiday. Early getaway service will also operate on the Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines on Friday, January 2.

Regular weekday service

 

On Wednesday, December 31, trains will operate on a weekday schedule on all lines (Friday schedule on Atlantic City Rail Line) with additional "early getaway" rail service from New York Penn Station, Newark Penn Station and Hoboken Terminal starting at noon on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley, Morris & Essex, Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines. To view the additional departures, customers may use the Station-to-Station trip planner at www.njtransit.com (select origin and destination and display the "weekday" schedule).

Buses will operate on a weekday schedule, with additional buses providing early getaway service on select routes from the Port Authority Bus Terminal starting around 1 p.m. Newark Light Rail, Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and River LINE will operate on a weekday schedule.

In addition, River LINE will operate extended late-night service on New Year's Eve and after midnight on New Year's Day to accommodate customers attending the festivities on the Camden Waterfront. Visit www.njtransit.com for details.

After midnight New Year's Day, Thursday, January 1, special late-night trains will operate on most rail lines, and expanded bus service will be provided from the Port Authority Bus Terminal between midnight and 5:30 a.m. on select routes - visit www.njtransit.com for details.

Special late-night rail service between midnight and 7 a.m., January 1:

 

  • Northeast Corridor: Nine trains will operate from New York; seven trains will operate from Trenton.
  • North Jersey Coast Line: Six trains will operate from New York.
  • Morris & Essex Lines: Six trains will operate from Hoboken; five trains will operate from New York.
  • Raritan Valley Line: Five trains will operate from Newark.
  • Main/Bergen County Line: Eleven trains will operate from Hoboken.
  • Pascack Valley Line: Two trains will operate from Hoboken.
  • Port Jervis Line: Two trains will operate from Hoboken.
  • Atlantic City Line: Three trains will operate from Philadelphia; three trains will operate from Atlantic City.

On New Year's Day, trains will operate on a weekend/major holiday schedule on all lines (Sunday schedule on Atlantic City Rail Line), with no rail service on the Montclair-Boonton Line. Newark Light Rail and Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on a weekend schedule; River LINE will operate on a Sunday schedule. Extended savings for the holiday season

NJ TRANSIT's Family Super Saver Fare, which allows up to two children 11 and younger to travel free with each fare-paying adult, will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Monday, January 5, on all trains, buses and light rail lines. In addition, Off-Peak Round-Trip (ORT) tickets, which offer up to 15 percent savings off the cost of regular fares, are valid on all NJ TRANSIT trains during this time.
