BUS SERVICE ADJUSTMENTS TAKE EFFECT SEPTEMBER 1

New intermodal connection for South Jersey customers; expanded service to Newark Liberty International Airport

NEWARK, NJ NJ TRANSIT will adjust bus routes on September 1, 2007, adding trips on a number of lines to meet demand and extending some routes to better link customers to employment, shopping and recreation destinations.

The changes include the continued expansion of service to Newark Liberty International Airport, with trips added to the No. 62 bus route between Newark Penn Station and the airport, as well as south of the airport to and from Rahway. In addition, selected No. 107 trips to and from New York, Irvington and South Orange will operate via Union City and the north area of Newark Liberty International Airport on weekdays.

In South Jersey, the No. 552 line will be extended beyond Atlantic City Bus Terminal to serve the Atlantic City Rail Terminal and Convention Center, providing a new intermodal connection to key southern shore points, such as Wildwood and Cape May.

These adjustments are part of a scheduled system-wide bus timetable change. Customers are encouraged to review timetables available aboard buses, at customer service offices, online at www.njtransit.com or by calling 1-800-772-2222.

County-by-county highlights effective September 1

Atlantic County / Cape May County

  • 552 Cape May-Atlantic City: Trips will be extended to serve the Atlantic City Rail Terminal and Convention Center, providing an intermodal connection that will link Philadelphia’s 30th St. Station and Atlantic City Rail Line stations in Camden and Atlantic counties with shore points such as Wildwood and Cape May.

Bergen County

  • 156 Englewood Cliffs-New York: A new River Road Express (R) trip to New York will be added weekday mornings, operating 30 minutes earlier than the current first express trip.
  • 158 Fort Lee-Edgewater-New York: Saturday service will operate every 40 minutes instead of every hour for most of the day. Weekday late evening service from New York will be adjusted.
  • 161 Paterson-Passaic-New York: Selected weekday AM and PM peak trips to Paterson and New York will be extended to operate via Commerce Boulevard in Carlstadt. On Saturdays, two early AM trips to New York and two early AM trips to Paterson will be added and will also operate via Commerce Boulevard.
  • 163 Hackensack-New York: On Saturdays, ten additional round trips will operate between Hackensack and New York.
  • 164 Midland Park-New York: On Fridays, the 12:50 p.m. and 1:50 p.m. summer "early getaway" (E) trips from New York to Midland Park will be discontinued.
  • 167 Teaneck-New York: Weekday morning peak Queen Anne Road (Q) trips and Teaneck express (T) trips will be adjusted to improve reliability and meet demand.
  • 168 Paramus-Ridgefield Park-New York: Weekday morning peak service will be adjusted to improve reliability and meet demand.
  • 175 Ridgewood-New York: Selected weekday AM peak, midday and early afternoon trips to and from New York will operate via the Bergen County College- Mega Building in Paramus.
  • 190 Paterson-New York: A new early AM peak Rutherford Express (R) trip to New York and an early AM local trip to Rutherford will be added weekdays.

Burlington County / Camden County

  • 409 Trenton-Willingboro-Philadelphia: New Saturday/Sunday service will be added to the Grand Marketplace shopping center in Willingboro on US 130.

Camden County / Gloucester County

  • 400 Sicklerville-Philadelphia and 455 Cherry Hill Mall-Woodbury-Paulsboro: The bus stop at Deptford Mall will be moved to the upper level area between the Macy’s and Boscov’s entrances at the request of the mall.

Essex County

  • 34 Market Street: Weekday departure times on eastbound trips toward Newark will be adjusted between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
  • 37 Lyons Avenue: Two early morning trips will be added from Irvington Terminal to Newark Liberty International Airport on weekdays and weekends.
  • 40 Kearny-Port Newark: A new trip will be added from North Arlington to Newark Penn Station weekdays at 6:40 a.m.
  • 62 Newark-Woodbridge-Perth Amboy: Additional trips will operate between Newark Liberty International Airport and Newark Penn Station, including nine weekday, six Saturday and seven Sunday trips.
  • 107 Irvington-New York: Selected late AM peak and midday local trips to and from New York, Irvington and South Orange will be rerouted to operate via Union City (30th & 31st Streets) and Newark Liberty International Airport-North Area on weekdays. Departure times on these local trips will also be adjusted.

Hudson County

  • 40 Kearny-Port Newark: A new trip will be added from North Arlington to Newark Penn Station weekdays at 6:40 a.m.
  • 129 Secaucus-New York: Weekday morning peak service to New York will be adjusted to meet demand, and AM and PM peak service between Harmon Cove and Secaucus Junction will be revised.
  • 156 Englewood Cliffs-New York: A new River Road Express (R) trip will be added weekdays, operating 30 minutes earlier than the current first express trip.
  • 158 Fort Lee-Edgewater-New York: Saturday service will operate every 40 minutes instead of every hour for most of the day. Weekday late evening service from New York will be adjusted.

Middlesex County

  • 64 Lakewood-Jersey City-Weehawken: Additional peak hour service will be offered to meet demand.
  • 68 Old Bridge-East Brunswick-Jersey City-Weehawken: New morning service will be offered to meet demand.
  • 113 Dunellen-New York: Weekday morning service to New York and weekday afternoon and evening service from New York will be adjusted, with additional express service offered in both directions.
  • 114 Bridgewater-New York: Weekday morning service to Bridgewater and New York and afternoon and evening service from New York will be adjusted, with additional local and express trips offered. On all days, the last trip of the night from New York to Bridgewater will operate ten minutes later, departing New York at 12:20 a.m.
  • 115 Avenel-Rahway-New York: Weekday morning peak period service in both directions will be adjusted, with an earlier morning trip offered into New York.
  • 116 Perth Amboy-New York: Weekday service will be adjusted, with additional trips offered to New York in the morning and from New York in the evening peak period.
  • 131 Sayreville-New York: New PM service will be offered to meet demand.
  • 139 Lakewood-New York: Additional peak hour service will be offered to meet demand.

Monmouth County / Ocean County

  • 64 Lakewood-Jersey City-Weehawken: Additional peak hour service will be offered to meet demand.
  • 139 Lakewood-New York: Additional peak hour service will be offered to meet demand.

Passaic County

  • 75 Butler-Newark: Weekday trips operating to and from William Paterson University in Wayne will now begin and end at the new Wayne Hall bus stop instead of at the Tennis Circle bus stop.
  • 161 Paterson-Passaic-New York: Selected weekday AM and PM peak trips to Paterson and New York will be extended to operate via Commerce Boulevard in Carlstadt. On Saturdays, two early AM trips to New York and two early AM trips to Paterson will be added and will also operate via Commerce Boulevard.
  • 190 Paterson-New York: A new early AM peak Rutherford Express (R) trip to New York and an early AM local trip to Rutherford will be added weekdays.
  • 192 Clifton-New York: On Fridays, the 2:40 p.m., 3:10 p.m. and 4 p.m. summer "early getaway" (FX) trips from New York to Clifton will be discontinued.
  • 193 Willowbrook-New York: On Fridays, the 1:40 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. summer "early getaway" (F) trips from New York to Willowbrook will be discontinued.
  • 194 Newfoundland-New York: On Fridays, the 1:40 p.m. summer "early getaway" trip (F) from New York to Wayne-Rt. 23 Park/Ride via Willowbrook will be discontinued.
  • 197 Warwick-Wayne-New York: A new weekday trip from Pompton Lakes via Valley Road to New York will be added at 6:16 a.m. The 9:02 a.m. and 10:52 a.m. seasonal local trips from Pompton Lakes to New York via Willowbrook will be discontinued.
  • 744 Passaic-Wayne: All weekday and Saturday trips to and from Wayne will now operate via the new Wayne Hall bus stop at William Paterson University. Departure times throughout the day will also be adjusted.

Somerset County

  • 114 Bridgewater-New York: Weekday morning service to Bridgewater and New York and afternoon and evening service from New York will be adjusted, with additional local and express trips offered. On all days, the last trip of the night from New York to Bridgewater will operate ten minutes later, departing New York at 12:20 a.m.

Union County

  • 62 Newark-Woodbridge-Perth Amboy: Additional trips will operate between Rahway and Elizabeth, serving Newark Liberty International Airport, including six weekday trips and one Saturday trip.
  • 113 Dunellen-New York: Weekday morning service to New York and weekday afternoon and evening service from New York will be adjusted, with additional express service offered in both directions.
  • 114 Bridgewater-New York: Weekday morning service to Bridgewater and New York and afternoon and evening service from New York will be adjusted, with additional local and express trips offered. On all days, the last trip of the night from New York to Bridgewater will operate ten minutes later, departing New York at 12:20 a.m.
  • 115 Avenel-Rahway-New York: Weekday morning peak period service in both directions will be adjusted, with an earlier morning trip offered into New York.
