BUS SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS ARRIVE SEPTEMBER 3

NEWARK, NJ –
Beginning September 3, NJ TRANSIT will add bus trips on 36 routes to match growing demand, adjust routes to accommodate customer requests and reinstate school trips for the fall.

Bus customers should check the new timetables of affected routes before September 3 at www.njtransit.com or by calling 1-800-772-2222.

County-by-county highlights:

Atlantic County

· 505 Atlantic City–Margate–Longport: One morning trip from the Atlantic City Inlet to 32nd Avenue, Longport will be added to the schedule.

· 507 Atlantic City–Ocean City (via Shore Road): Outbound route to Ocean City has been adjusted to operate over the Eighth Street and Atlantic Avenue loop, to improve bi-directional service for local residents.

· 508 Atlantic City–Richard Stockton College–Hamilton Mall: A new afternoon trip from Atlantic City to Pleasantville will be offered in addition to the existing 4:45 p.m. trip.

· 552 Cape May–Atlantic City: Service will be extended to the Cape May Court House on selected trips to serve the new Atlantic/Cape May Community College.

Bergen County

· 144 Fair Lawn–Hackensack–New York: Service operating via the Hasbrouck Heights Hilton Hotel will be discontinued due to low ridership.

· 156 Englewood Cliffs–New York: Three morning peak River Road trips to New York, and one local trip to New York via Park Avenue will be added to the schedule.

· 158 Fort Lee–Edgewater–New York: One morning peak trip to New York will be added to the schedule. A new midday trip to New York between 1 and 2 p.m., as well as one afternoon peak trip to Fort Lee between 6 and 6:30 p.m. will also be added.

· 159 Fort Lee–New York: Two morning peak River Road trips to New York between 9 and 10 a.m. and one morning peak local Bergenline Avenue trip to New York at 8 a.m. will be added to the schedule.

· 160 Elmwood Park–New York: One afternoon reverse peak trip to New York between 4:15 and 5 p.m. will be added to the schedule.

· 165 Westwood–New York: Two morning peak Parkway Express trips between 7 and 8 a.m. will be added.

· 167 Harrington Park–New York: Three late morning peak Armory Express trips to New York between 9 and 10 a.m. will be added to the schedule. Adjustments will be made on Teaneck Road Local trips between 8:45 and 10 a.m. Two late evening trips to Dumont via Glenpointe and Teaneck Road between 9:40 and 11 p.m. from New York will be added to the schedule.

Camden County

· 318 Philadelphia–Great Adventure: Service will operate on weekends only through the end of September.

· 317 Philadelphia–Asbury Park: An additional morning trip will be added from Fort Dix to Philadelphia.

Cape May County

· 552 Cape May–Atlantic City: Service will be extended to the Cape May Court House on selected trips to serve the new Atlantic/Cape May Community College.

Essex County

· 1 Newark: Planned summer service reductions will be restored with improvements made to the schedule.

· 13 Broad–Irvington–Newark–Bellville–Nutley: Travel times will be adjusted throughout the day to match travel patterns. Weekday evening service will increase from two to three trips an hour.

· 25 Springfield Avenue: Planned summer service reductions will be restored with adjustments, including adjustments to Port Newark service and an additional eastbound morning peak trip to Newark Penn Station.

· 27 Mt. Prospect: Planned summer service reductions will be restored and a morning peak trip will be added to the schedule.

· 34 Market Street: Planned summer service reductions will be restored and a morning trip from Bloomfield to South Street will be added to the schedule.

· 39 Chancellor Avenue–Kearny Avenue: One evening reverse peak express trip will be added to schedule.

· 52 Morris Avenue: One morning outbound trip will be added to the schedule.

· 62 Newark–Woodbridge–Perth Amboy: An early morning trip from Newark to Perth Amboy will be added.

· 65 Newark–Somerville: A morning outbound express trip will be added and adjustments made to other trips to alleviate overcrowding.

· 71 Newark–West Caldwell: Evening weekday schedule will be revised to include an additional trip in each direction. On Sundays, one evening trip from West Orange to East Orange will be added.

· 75 Butler–Newark: Morning and afternoon peak service will be extended between Willowbrook Mall and William Paterson University. This service also connects customers to rail service at Newark Penn Station.

· 73 Newark–Orange–Livingston: One morning outbound trip will be adjusted to alleviate overcrowding.

· 78 Newark–Secaucus: Two roundtrips to serve the evening shift at UPS in Secaucus will be added to the schedule.

Gloucester County

· 402 Pennsville–Philadelphia: Adjustment will be made to the schedule to enhance service to the Pureland Industrial Park in Logan Township.

Hudson County

· 87 King Drive: Planned summer service reductions will be restored. On Sundays, an early morning northbound trip will be added to the schedule.

· 128 Boulevard East–New York: More trips during the evening peak period from New York to North Bergen will be added to the schedule.

· 320 Mill Creek–Harmon Meadows–North Bergen Park/Ride–New York: Service levels will be increased on weekends between 8 a.m. and noon to New York, and outbound to North Bergen Park/Ride, Harmon Meadow and Mill Creek in Secaucus between 4 p.m. and midnight.

Mercer County

· 409 Trenton–Willingboro–Philadelphia: An early morning trip will be extended to Trenton from Burlington.

· 601 College of New Jersey–Trenton–Hamilton Marketplace: Additional trips will be offered.

· 603 Mercer Mall– Quaker Bridge Mall–Hamilton Marketplace: Service frequency will be adjusted on Saturdays to accommodate increased demand.

· 608 Hamilton–West Trenton: School trips will be restored for the fall. One morning trip from Hamilton Rail Station to West State/Sanhican in Trenton will be added to the schedule.

· 976 Lawrence–West Windsor–Princeton Junction: Service to Yorkshire Meadows Apartment Complex will be added to the schedule, as well as additional reverse commute service to Princeton Junction.

Middlesex County

· 62 Newark–Woodbridge–Perth Amboy: An early morning trip from Newark to Perth Amboy will be added.

· 68 East Brunswick–Jersey City–Weehawken: Running-time changes will be made to improve on-time performance.

· 116 Perth Amboy–New York: One afternoon peak trip will be added to the schedule.

· 134 Browntown–New York (Lower Manhattan): Adjustments will be made to running times.

Monmouth County

· 137 Toms River–New York: Seaside Heights, Seaside Park and Island Beach State Park service will end after Labor Day.

· 139 Lakewood–New York: Trips originating at the Port Authority Bus Terminal will operate every 12 minutes between 7 and 8 p.m. Planned summer evening reductions in evening service will be restored.

· 307 Freehold–Six Flags Great Adventure: Service will operate on weekends until the end of October.

· 311 Point Pleasant–Six Flags Great Adventure: Service will end after Labor Day.

Passaic County

· 75 Butler–Newark: Morning and afternoon peak service will be extended between Willowbrook Mall and William Paterson University. This service also connects customers to rail service at Newark Penn Station.

· 161 Paterson–Passaic–New York: One morning reverse peak trip at 7:05 a.m. from Union City to Little Falls will be added to the schedule.

· 163 Ridgewood–New York: School trips will be reinstated for the fall. One late morning peak Turnpike Express trip between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. will be added. A 10:05 p.m. local trip from New York to Ridgewood will be added to the schedule.

· 190 Paterson–New York: On Friday afternoons, two new Passaic – Paterson Express trips will be added to the schedule leaving New York at 2:15 and 2:45 p.m.

· 192 Clifton–New York: Two late evening weekday Clifton–Allwood Express trips will be added from New York between 9 and 9:30 p.m.

· 193 Wayne Rt. 23 Park/Ride–New York: One morning peak trip between 7:30 and 8 a.m. to New York will be added to the schedule.

· 194 Newfoundland–New York: One afternoon peak express trip via the Wayne-Route 23 Park/Ride will be added between 7 and 8 p.m.

· 197 Warwick–Wayne–New York: Additional morning and early evening peak trips to serve William Paterson University Business School on Valley Road in Wayne to/from Willowbrook and New York will be added. Additional weekday trips to serve the Union Valley/Marshall Hill Road section of West Milford Township will be offered.

Somerset County

· 65 Newark–Somerville: A morning outbound express trip will be added and adjustments will be made to other trips to alleviate overcrowding.

Union County

· 62 Newark–Woodbridge–Perth Amboy: An early morning trip from Newark to Perth Amboy will be added.

· 65 Newark–Somerville: A morning outbound express trip will be added and adjustments will be made to other trips to alleviate overcrowding.

· 111 Jersey Gardens–New York: On Saturdays, afternoon and evening trips to New York will be added.

· 113 Dunellen–New York: Morning and afternoon express trips will be added to the schedule. Morning local schedule will be adjusted.

· 114 Bridgewater–New York: One morning express and two afternoon local trips will be added to the schedule.

· 115 Rahway–New York: One morning peak trip to be added.
