NJ TRANSIT adds express trains, seats for Rutgers fans’ trip to MSG

NEWARK, NJ –
As the Rutgers Scarlet Knights prepare to take the court tonight in the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden, NJ TRANSIT announced the addition of two special express trains from New Brunswick to transport fans to the game.

The first express train will depart New Brunswick at 6:50 p.m., make a brief station stop in Newark and arrive at New York Penn Station at approximately 7:45 p.m. A second express train will depart New Brunswick at 7:25 p.m., stop at Newark and arrive in New York at 8:30 p.m.

The special service is in addition to existing frequent service along the Northeast Corridor between New Brunswick and New York, bringing the total number of inbound trains between 6 and 8 p.m. to eight – up from six on a regular schedule. Regularly scheduled departures from New Brunswick are at 6:20 p.m. (arrives in New York at 7:12 p.m.), 6:26 p.m. (arrives at 7:26 p.m.), 6:38 p.m. (arrives at 7:37 p.m.), 7:10 p.m. (arrives at 8:08 p.m.), 7:30 p.m. (arrives at 8:22 p.m.), and 7:59 p.m. (arrives 8:54 p.m.).

For the return trip after the game, NJ TRANSIT plans additional seats on trains to accommodate demand. Extra trains will be on standby to be placed in to service on an as needed basis. Regularly scheduled departures from New York Penn Station are available at 10:09 p.m. (arrives in New Brunswick at 11:05 p.m.), 10:34 p.m. (arrives at 11:23 p.m.), 10:44 p.m. (arrives at 11:40 p.m.), 11:09 p.m. (arrives at 12:04 a.m.), 11:42 p.m. (arrives at 12:38 a.m.), 12:42 a.m. (arrives at 1:35 a.m.) and 1:41 a.m. (arrives at 2:35 a.m.).

Located directly above the New York Penn Station, Madison Square Garden is easily accessible by escalators from the station concourse. Additional customer service representatives will be on hand at New Brunswick and New York to guide fans.

The adult off-peak round trip fare between New Brunswick and New York is only $13.

The ticket office at New Brunswick Station is open until 9 p.m. for the convenience of fans purchasing tickets. The station is also equipped with seven ticket vending machines, which accept cash and debit and credit cards.
