Join our Citizen Police Academy

Protecting the nation's largest statewide public transportation system is more than a full-time job for the NJ TRANSIT Police. To learn more about it, you can attend a 15-week "Citizen Police Academy" hosted by the NJTPD in September 2012.

Interactive classroom instruction will give participants a better understanding of the procedures, guidelines, responsibilities, laws and policies that guide police decision-making. Hands-on training includes virtual firearms training (pictured), a police driving simulator and a ride-along with a police officer.

You must be 21 years of age or older and successfully complete a thorough background investigation to participate. Academy recruits meet once a week for approximately two to three hours at NJ TRANSIT Headquarters, One Penn Plaza East, Newark, NJ, across from Newark Penn Station.
