Overview

NJ TRANSIT'S Office of Business Diversity is designed to expand opportunities for small, disadvantaged, women and minority business enterprises to obtain contracts for the development of goods and services.

NJ TRANSIT's Office of Business Diversity is an entry point of opportunity for small business. As part of the NJ TRANSIT Department of Diversity Programs, the goal of the Office of Business Diversity is to "level the playing field" for disadvantaged, minority, women-owned and small business enterprises (DBEs, MWBEs and SBEs). It does this by ensuring the participation of these businesses in all of NJ TRANSIT's federally funded contracts. Each annual goal reflects NJ TRANSIT's dedication to "leveling the playing field."

Since 1979, NJ TRANSIT has been setting the standard as an equal opportunity employer and leader in business diversity best practices. When businesses tap into the Office of Business Diversity and its programs, they gain access to billions of dollars in government contracts. They also benefit from initiatives designed to enhance their business performance. These initiates are implemented throughout the year.

In accordance with Federal Regulation 49 CFR, Part 26, Executive Order 11625, as well as provisions of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, NJ TRANSIT adheres to procurement policies that prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, creed, ancestry and sex in the awarding of contracts.

The program's success is based on the establishment of meaningful and practical annual goals, as well as the availability of qualified SBEs, DBEs, MBEs and WBEs to provide contracting services. Creative efforts are employed by NJ TRANSIT to both disseminate information about the program and to expand the network of qualified small business enterprises to support programmatic goals.
