LOWER HACKENSACK RIVER BRIDGE REHABILITATION
Project Scope:
The Lower Hackensack Bridge is a Vertical Lift Bridge (Drawbridge) over the Hackensack River, between Kearny and Jersey City. It is a three-track structure that carries Morris and Essex, and Montclair Boonton Line trains. The project is executed in two phases.
Phase I of the project removed and replaced all stairways and ladders; renewed the machinery and operator's houses; repaired damaged and deteriorated steel; and, performed a detailed inspection of the upper cable bearings. Phase I was completed in 2009
Phase II is the rehabilitation of the existing structures, including repairs to the concrete approach slabs, columns and balustrade; track and ballast removal; waterproofing; and, steel repairs on the lift and tower spans.
Project Cost:
Phase II, approximately $21,202,000. ($21,200,000 funded by the American Recovery and Investment Act of 2009)
