NEWARK LIGHT RAIL DAVENPORT AVENUE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA) ACCESS IMPROVEMENTS

Project Scope:

This project involves the renovation and rehabilitation of the existing station. The project will begin with the demolition of the existing overhead pedestrian walkway and stairs and the installation of an ADA compliant ramp for station access from Davenport Avenue. The platforms will be raised to enable level boarding of the light rail trains and to allow for better access for all customers. Accessible routes will be provided from the Branch Brook Park entrance and across the tracks between the two platforms.  In addition, new lighting and shelters will also be installed, along with upgrades to customer communications and security cameras..

 

Project Cost:

Approximately $2,000,000.

 

Schedule:

Anticipated completion – Fall 2014

 

 

Benefits:

The improvements will make the station fully accessible and new lighting, shelters and customer amenities will be installed.
