UPDATE: Raritan Valley Line: Buses Replace Trains between Cranford & Newark due to Amtrak and Conrail Upgrades - April 20-23 & April 27-30, 2018

UPDATE: Extended dates in red.

Amtrak and Conrail will perform important track and signal work  that will require Raritan Valley Line (RVL) trains to be replaced by NJ TRANSIT buses between Cranford and Newark Penn stations on the following dates and times:

  • Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, April 20 and continuing through Sunday night April 22/early morning Monday, April 23, and then again Friday, April 27 and continuing through Sunday night April 29/early morning, Monday, April 30.
  • Beginning at 11:15 p.m., Monday, April 23 and Monday, April 30, and continuing until 4:30 a.m. the following mornings.

Please allow for extra travel time and listen for station announcements.

FRIDAY EVENINGS, APRIL 20 AND APRIL 27 (Click HERE for schedule)

Traveling Eastbound

  • Train 5152 (7:52 p.m. FROM Raritan) will terminate at Cranford.

  • Train 5154 (8:49 p.m. FROM Raritan) will terminate at Cranford.

  • Train 5156 (9:53 p.m. FROM Raritan) will terminate at Cranford.

  • Train 5458 (11:38 p.m.FROM Raritan) will terminate at Cranford.

  • Customers traveling FROM Raritan to Westfield will board their regular trains.

  • Customers at Cranford, Roselle Park and Union will board buses to Newark.
    • Buses will not depart Cranford until all customers have transferred from the train.

  • At Newark, customers continuing to Secaucus and New York should board the next available train. Customers may wait longer than usual for their connecting train at Newark, and, if traveling via Secaucus, should plan their connections carefully as trains will not be held at Secaucus. 

  • Customers will arrive at their final destination up to 90 minutes later than usual if using NJ TRANSIT trains.

Traveling Westbound 

  • An additional outbound train will depart Cranford at 9:25 p.m.making all stops to High Bridge.

  • Train 5193 (8:48 p.m. FROM New York) will originate in Cranford. Customers traveling from New York should take Northeast Corridor (NEC) Train 3887 (9:06 p.m. FROM New York) and change at Newark for connecting bus service to Union, Roselle Park and Cranford.

  • Train 5155 (9:48 p.m. FROM New York) will originate in Cranford. Customers traveling from New York should take NEC Train 3737 (9:54 p.m. FROM New York) and change at Newark for connecting bus service to service to Union, Roselle Park andCranford.

  • Train 5197 (10:48 p.m. FROM New York) will originate in Cranford. Customers should take NEC Train 3895 (11:06 p.m. FROM New York) and change at Newark forconnecting bus service to service to Union, Roselle Park and Cranford.

  • Train 5101 (12:08 a.m. FROM New York) will originate in Cranford. Customers should take Northeast Corridor Train 3897 (12:14 a.m. FROM New York) and change at Newark for connecting bus service toservice to Union, Roselle Park and Cranford.

  • Train 5403 (1:00 a.m. FROM New York/ 1:28 a.m. FROM Newark) will originate from Cranford. Customers should take Train 7205, as usual (1:00 a.m. FROM New York) and change at Newark for connecting bus service to Union, Roselle Park and Cranford.

  • Buses will not depart Newark until the connecting train has arrived and all customers have transferred.

  • Trains will not depart Cranford until all buses have arrived and all customers have transferred.

  • Customers will arrive at their final destination up to 70 minutes later than usual.

WEEKENDS of APRIL 21 - APRIL 22 AND APRIL 28 - APRIL 29 (Click HERE for schedule).

  • Trains will operate between Raritan and Cranford stations ONLY.

  • Substitute bus service will operate in both directions between Cranford and Newark.

Traveling Eastbound

  • Customers traveling FROM Raritan to Garwood will board their regular trains.

  • Customers at Cranford, Roselle Park and Union will board buses to Newark. Buses will not depart Cranford until all customers have transferred fromthe train.

  • At Newark, customers continuing TOSecaucusand New York should board the next available train. Customers may wait longer than usual for their connecting train at Newark, and, if traveling via Secaucus,should plan their connections carefullyastrains will not be held at Secaucus.

  • Customers will arrive at their final destination up to 55 minutes later than usual if using NJ TRANSIT trains.

Traveling Westbound:

  • Customers traveling FROM Newarkwill board buses to Union Station, Roselle Park and Cranford. At Cranford, customers will transfer to the train. Trains will not depart until all buses have arrived and all customers have transferred.

  • Saturday and Sunday,customers traveling FROM Newark will board buses to Union where they will transfer to the train. Trains will not depart Union until all buses have arrived and all customers have transferred.
    • Customers traveling FROM New York or Secaucus will take their regular connecting trains from those stations and transfer to buses at Newark.
    • Buses will not depart Newark until the connecting train has arrived and all customers have transferred.
    • Trains will not depart Cranford until all buses have arrived and all customers have transferred.
    Customers will arrive at their final destination up to 35 minutes later than usual.

Traveling Eastbound 

  • Train 5156 (9:53 p.m. FROM Raritan) will terminate at Cranford.

  • Train 5458 (11:38 p.m. FROM Raritan) will terminate at Cranford.

  • Customers traveling fromRaritan to Westfield will board their regular trains.

  • Customers at Cranford, Roselle Park and Union will board buses to Newark.
    • Buses will not depart Cranford until all customers have transferred from the train

  • At Newark, customers continuing to Secaucus and New York should board the next available train. Customers may wait longer than usual for their connecting train at Newark, and, if traveling via Secaucus, should plan their connections carefully as trains will not be held at Secaucus. 

  • Customers will arrive at their final destination up to 50 minutes later than usual if using NJ TRANSIT trains.

Traveling Westbound

  • The following trains will originate at Cranford. Customers should take the Northeast Corridor (NEC) train shown from New York and change at Newark for connecting bus service to Union, Roselle Park and Cranford:

  • For Train 5101 (12:08 a.m. FROM New York), customers should take Northeast Corridor Train 3897 (12:14 a.m. FROM New York).

  • For Train 5403 (1:00 a.m. FROM New York/1:28 a.m. FROM Newark), customers should take Train 7205, as usual (1:00 a.m. FROM New York).

  • Buses will not depart Newark until the connecting train has arrived and all customers have transferred.

  • Trains will not depart Cranford until all buses have arrived and all customers have transferred.

  • Customers will arrive attheir final destination up to 45 minutes later than usual.
