Frequently Asked Questions Bus Routes Shadowed by Access Link

Access Link is NJ TRANSIT's paratransit service required by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Access Link provides paratransit service comparable to the local bus service. This service is specifically for people whose disability prevents them from using the local fixed route bus service.

Access Link Eligibility

Eligibility is determined using the three categories provided in the ADA. You may be eligible for Access Link if:

• Because of your disability you cannot get on or off a bus or ride in an accessible bus without assistance.



• You have a disability (or a disability in combination with environmental barriers) that prevents you from getting to or from a bus stop.



• You could use the local bus, but accessible service has not yet been implemented thus preventing you from using it.

Applying for Access Link Eligibility:

Everyone who would like to apply for Access Link must be interviewed in person to determine his or her eligibility. The interviews are conducted by a network of community based organizations throughout the State.

Access Link Characteristics:

• Curb to curb service.
• Shared-ride system.
• Operates during the same days and hours as the local fixed route bus system.
• Same fare as the local fixed route bus.
• Exact fare required.
• Reservations must be made 1-14 days in advance of a trip.
• Cancellations must be made 90 minutes prior to a requested pick up time.
• 20 minute pick up window (Passengers must be ready for pickup 20 minutes before to 20 minutes after their requested pick-up time).

ACCESS LINK SERVICE AREA:

Origin and destination of Access Link trips must fall within 3/4 mile of a local bus route.
