Trenton Station Renovation

Background
Artist's rendering of Trenton Station Trenton Station is owned and operated by NJ TRANSIT but is also used by Amtrak, which controls all train operations at the station and on the Northeast Corridor. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) also operates from this station, providing service to and from Philadelphia.

The major functions of the station take place along the overpass/concourse. The station serves an approximate daily weekday average ridership of 5,500 passengers. The lower level consists of two high-level island platforms with 1,000 linear feet of canopies and 2,000 square feet of shelter space, and one side low-level platform.

Project Scope
The station rehabilitation project includes the expansion of the building footprint and the addition of a mezzanine level to provide additional office space; exterior and interior architectural improvements; upgrades of heating, air conditioning, elevators, escalators and lighting; landscaping and circulation improvements to the existing parking areas; and miscellaneous improvements including closed circuit television and passenger information displays.

Project Cost
$73.8 million

Current Status
Main contract under construction.

Next Milestone
Construction is anticipated to be completed by the east end of 2007.

Benefits
The new station will provide a larger, more aesthetically pleasing facility for existing and new riders and will greatly improve poor conditions at the existing facility. With the increasing ridership demands from Amtrak, SEPTA, NJ TRANSIT Northeast Corridor riders and River LINE, the new station will better accommodate passenger flows and provide an appropriate venue for the State Capitol.
