Ridgewood Station ADA Key Station Accessibility

Background
This station is owned by the Village of Ridgewood and is on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
Ridgewood is a key station under the Americans with Disabilities Act (see the "Rail System Improvements" section for more information on commuter rail accessibility and key stations).
Accessibility improvements at Ridgewood Station will allow access to customers with disabilities. Customers will be able to use this station to reach other accessible stations on the line such as Ramsey, Rutherford or Hoboken Terminal.
Project Scope
The scope of work includes the construction of two full-length high-level
platforms with canopies and lighting; addition of accessible parking,
curb ramps, and sidewalks to reach the new platforms and the existing
station building. Accessibility improvements to the station building
includes the installation of an accessible unisex restroom and modifications
to the ticket window. A new pedestrian underpass will be constructed
to allow riders to access all areas of the station.
Project Cost
$27 million (Rough Estimate)
Current Status
As a result of the resolution (#05-117) passed by the village of Ridgewood Council in April 2005, all design work was stopped by NJ TRANSIT. The village council opposes the design. This design featured high level platforms, a pedestrian tunnel and elevators.
Next Milestone
Resumption of discussions with the village of Ridgewood will occur in the fall of 2005.
Benefits
The accessibility improvements will provide access to rail transit for all NJ TRANSIT riders.
